"Awesome through and through!"
|
Stephen Chow makes Asians like me really proud! This latest movie of his is a family comedy through and through. It has the ability to tickle your funny bone no matter how old you are. CJ7 is a breath of fresh air that will make you smile, it’s a feel-awesome movie. I’m very… impressed, this movie deserves nationwide release and more recognition. After a series of success (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle), and this.. I’m officially a Stephen Chow’s fan and will give his next project a chance no matter how silly it might be.
What’s really awesome about this movie is its exaggerated sense of humor. It takes silliness and blows it up into something that’s way over the top and it will still be funny. You’re watching it and you don’t mind being taken on this ridiculous yet hilarious ride of your life. Stephen Chow is one of the few who can do that and do it well.
There are references making fun of today’s society of how the rich treat the poor: The teacher’s so afraid of the poor son because he’s scared he might catch whatever contagious ‘dirt’ the kid might have.
He shows how the poor are treated by he shows it in a way that somewhat mocks the lifestyle but never leaves the fact that it’s an unfortunate way to live.
The movie also makes fun of pop culture(Mission Impossible 2’s sunglasses).
Coming from a third world country and having seen how poverty can stricken someone, this movie doesn’t cover anything up in displaying it. Stephen Chow’s character as a construction worker but is determined to do work long hours just so that his son could go to a better school. It’s a story that rings true and leaves a mark because you just know that in the real world, it’s relevant.
All in all, it doesn’t go astray from the fact that it has great story and great comedy. This movie will make you giggle and laugh until your side hurts. There are scenes that will make you go “What in the world?!” and you’re enjoying every second of it.
If you’ve seen other previous Stephen Chow’s movies that you’d probably recognize some of the actors who show up in this one. Stephen’s like Adam Sandler, he’s often bring his friends to make appearance in his movies. What a friendly dude!
The visuals are pretty awesome considering it’s not a Hollywood big budget movie.
The CGI on the alien toy is not bad at all. It definitely can compete with other similar fantasy movies that are out nowadays.
When I first saw the alien toy CJ7 on the big screen, the first thing that came to mind was the movie Flubber, but soon I erased that memory because the toy is more likable than that stupid, crappy Robin Williams’ movie.
The character CJ7 is cute and surprisingly adorable, the story makes you connect with and care for the characters and that is another bonus point.
Last but not least, it has excellent directing and powerful acting especially from the the poor son, Dicky, played by Jiao Xu. He’s a revelation. That kid could show emotion and body language like an experienced actor.
Those of us who like Asian woman will find happiness in the fact that this movie’s got one very beautiful Asian woman in it as one of the teachers.
Go see CJ7 when you have the chance to, you’ll come out of the theaters feeling glad that you’ve seen it.
