"Masterful And Remarkably Moving!!!"
The diving Bell And The Butterfly also known as 'Scaphandre et le papillon' in French is an amazing and true work of art and personal biopic, based on the best-selling memoir with the same name. Its structure mimicks the awakening of its extraordinary protagonist's mind. Jean-Dominique Bauby was 43-years-old when he suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with a rare condition known as "locked-in syndrome." In Bauby's case, this meant that he was left entirely paralyzed except for his left eye. But with that one good eye he managed to blink out the dictation of his memoirs called The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Mathieu Almaric who plays Jean-Dominique Bauby is captivating in this role of the deep sea diving bell which is how Bauby visualized himself trapped within his own body, and the butterfly represents his escape. Now his memoirs arrive on screen as we see them unfold. The film is terrifying and almost quite horrific especially in the scene where Bauby's paralyzed eye is being sewn back up but also provides a humane and kind of funny feel to it. It definately feels like nothing less than the rebirth of cinema. This film will definately change the way you look at life. Very emotional and moving script considering that the director Julian Schnabel directed the whole film in French and he isn't even french. I mean that is absolutely remarkable and the film is an academy worth and am glad it won a golden globe award and has been nominated for best picture and direction this year. It's unique and very imaginative and I recommend it to all you~
