"Not the best Treehouse of Horror, but still worthy of Halloween goodness."
While this Treehouse episode wasn't the great set of spooky tales, it still did some justice to the Halloween wonderment of the season.
I guess what I really don't like is the whole election coverage scenarios that go on in these episodes every 4 years. It's makes the episodes not so timeless, and when I go back to take down all the Treehouse of Horror episodes every year, this episode will stand out, much like the Clinton/Bob Dole episode does, as an episode containing current affairs will ultimately feel dated once the affair has passed.
That said, the writing in this episode (and possibly all season...this is the first episode I've seen of season 20), isn't up to par. I feel like there were plenty of opportunities for some big laughs, but the writers get a little scared and default to no-brainer type material.
Nonetheless, the Treehouse of Horror episodes are my favorite Simpson moments. There's nothing better than seeing the Simpsons characters get mashed up, squeezed and bloodied...especially in the fun manner that they do.
Standing up to the other 18 Treehouse of Horror episodes there have been in years passed, I'd rank this towards the bottom...say #16 of 19.
Still, excited for next year's episode!
