"Its still Indy."
In 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' the audience is asked to endure hordes of visual effects and completely unbelievable stunts and acts of daring. Indy and cohorts survive battles with russians, quicksand, gigantic killer ants, an atomic bomb, and plenty of aboriginees. Of course he survives, of course all his friends survive. The evil are punished, and the world as everyone knows it changes without anyone being the wiser. This sounds kinda far fetched huh? Then again, aren't all 'Indy' movies supposed to be like this? Uh, yeah, duh! But why does this one seem kinda flat?
Well first off, the visual effects here are computer generated not done in camera or on the set. Who's getting kinda sick of computer generated visual effects? No one? Well how about one, me. Its not that I hate those movies, but there can be moderation to it, and this was a perfect movie to kinda kick back to the not-so-olden days of hair and makeup, stan winston type special effects.
Still thats not the problem with the movie on a whole, and again, there is not that much wrong with the movie on a whole. It just lacks originality and imagination. But it is sleek and a fun ride. And Harrison Ford brings us back to the reason why we loved these movies in the first place. He's Indiana Jones, baby. Just a little older and slightly less fun. But, its still Indy.
