"Harold & Kumar up the ante in their second outing with SMART politics."
|
They're back... and they're better than ever!!!!
A Pot-Head comedy sequel that retains the heart, grossness, "highness", and sight gags of the original but also gets more intense and (ready yourselves) DEEPER with the social and critical commentary on racial tension and our government.
The story finds our heroes the same day the first film left off. The boys are planning to head to Amsterdam so that Harold can be with his true love. But with Kumar at his side you know that getting to their destination is not gonna be easy. They face terrorist accusations, the CIA, the KKK, Neil Patrick Harris, Gauntanamo Bay, the flip-side of topless, in-breds, and most notably the President of the United States and a love interest for Kumar.
Sitting in the theatre i was laughing non-stop at the jokes both juvenile and smart. but something i noticed was that in the packed theatre it was mostly me that laughed throughout. what did it mean??? am i just immature and juvenile or were the jokes flying over peoples heads???? i like to go with the last one. a lot of the jokes are political and very much racial and social and i think pot-heads in the theatre may have lost some of the jokes and to me that is a shame because this film is saying all the things that Democrats and Republicans are afraid to say for their own reasons.
I loved Harold & Kumar 2, the actors attacked the roles with the same eagerness and fun as they did the original and, well at least for me, the humor worked. And i very much liked how the directors (the guys who worte the original) retained all the little touches that made the original both incredibly and offensively fun but also incredibly honest and full of heart when centering on two best friends and the insane situations one gets them in.
Harold & Kumar 2 may be the gross fun our stressed out and very SERIOUS nation needs at the moment... and for some of you pot-heads just the right education on our government's ways which truly are ridiculous in some senses.
Harold & Kumar 2 gets a solid B.
