"Pineapple Express" is a hilarious stoner flick that also has some fun action."
Unfortunately I missed "Pineapple Express" in theaters. Luckily I got the DVD and I loved it. It has everything in it. Even if you're not a big comedy fan you still will like the movie.
The film begins with Dale, a process server, going to work. He smokes weed all day while he is working. So after work he goes over to his drug dealers, Saul's, apartment. Saul stays at home all day and smokes marijuana. Dale gets his drugs and leaves Saul's apartment. The next day Dale goes to hand out a subpoena. Once he gets there he waits outside and smokes a joint. While he is outside he witnesses a murder. When he is trying to drive away they see him.
Dale drives to Saul's apartment and tells him about what he saw. He doesn't worry at first but he remembers that he through out his joint and Saul is the only one who has that certain Marijuana. They go on the run and then get into all kinds of trouble. So once one of them gets captured all kinds of craziness happens. Everything before this is hilarious and everything after this is just as funny.
It is written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who also wrote "Superbad" but this film is much different than that. This is probably the funniest stoner movie I have seen. It has a lot of action towards the end which I think kind of distracts from the main plot but it is still entertaining. I was kind of surprised that there was this much action and violence because normally in Judd Apatow movies there is never this much action.
The acting is great. Seth Rogen is back again and he is just as funny as he was in "Knocked Up" and "Superbad." James Franco is hilarious as Saul. It is different than anything he has done before but he is so good at it. He is very believable in the role as is Seth Rogen. Danny McBride is terrific in a smaller role. I hope he has a busy future because he was great in this as well as "Tropic Thunder."
The director here is David Gordon Green. He normally does smaller movies but this is definitely not a small movie to me. David Gordon Green does an really good job. He has a little trouble making the transition from all the comedy to the action but everything else is great.
The visuals are excellent. There are ears, heads, feet and anything else you can think of that get blown off. You might think that the action will be kind of cheesy since it is a comedy but it all looks real. The car chase scene is very well made as well.
The picture is good. There is nothing major that I really noticed. The sound is very good as well. As with the picture there is nothing major that stands out. The extras are nice. There aren't a lot of them since I only got the 1 disc edition but the ones that are on here are fun.
So see "Pineapple Express" if you made the mistake of not seeing in theaters like me.
