NIM'S ISLAND (2008)

"It's Ok, but somewhat disturbing if you think about it..."

I'm going to keep this brief. It's really hardly worth mention to you guys but I saw this movie Nim's Island with Zelly this past Monday. It was a teacher development day at the school. That means that she was at home. I had to take the day off and everything. Anyhow, Nim's Island was kind of weird.

Here's the deal. This guy's wife gets eaten by a whale while they are on an oceanic adventure so he moves him and his daughter away from to city and to a remote Pacific island. He says it's because of all the sea life and whatever. He's a marine biologist. Clearly though it's because he's afraid his daughter will get eaten by a whale or something. She's all alone there. It's not a populated island or anything. She talks to animals and they seem to respond to her but the only human contact she has is with her Dad who frequently leaves on day long exploring trips. He's not always there.

It's kind of crazy. The movie is entertaining but the whole time I was thinking how bad of a Dad he is. I don't think it's totally his fault. Dude don't know how to deal with his grief. He should get help. So ya, then he goes off and get's shipwrecked during a suprise monsoon and Nim has to rely on the help of a New York adventure book author for help when her leg gets cut and infected while mountain climbing. Weird man. Oh ya, the author is Jody Foster who is totally agoraphobic. That's her row to hoe.

As a kid's movie it was good. Zelly liked it. When I told her how I thought that Nim's Dad didn't really do a proper job of keeping her safe she told me that it was just a movie and that it wasn't important. So there you have it. You can take from this what you want. It's just some junk I was thinking about.
