In short, this is a superhero film that delivers. Well worth the money.
Not only was Downey Jr. perfectly casted (and possibly the best casted actor to fill the shoes, or iron boots, of any filmed superhero ever), but the rest of the actors were as well. Nothing in the plot was over the top, the effects blended with the story instead of replacing it, and the balance of humor combined with self discovery and purpose was enough to keep the ball rolling. I never looked at my watch during the film, in fact, I wanted to see more when it was finished... well, stick around for the end of the credits, because there is.
The potential for annoying characters were there, but they were given short intervals instead of monologues, and the potential for gratuitous violence was left to a minimum with obvious imply rather than making it a blood bath, which it could have turned into.
It is safe to say that Marvel has the Superhero Film down to an art. An unexpected adaption for certain, but well executed in its writing and direction. A must see among the hoard of hyped films this summer.
