"A good period piece that has amazing visuals and fantastic acting, but fails to deliver when it comes to it's storyline."

A decent period piece which earns a star, fantastic acting by Daniel Day-Lewis (as always) that earns a second star, and phenomenal cinematography that was a well deserved Oscar win, which accounts for the third star. The story however is too thin and simple for a film that clocks in at exactly 2 hours thirty minutes. The meaning of the title and the revelation of the entire story isn't revealed until the ending, and most people will have figured it out before then, but waiting until the end to put the kick in the movie, and then immediately ending it is too much to endure for me. It's not until said scene that you want to see more, but it's over so that's a bummer, kind of like this feeling: "What? I've been watching this for 150 minutes for this, and nothing else?!" So overall, this film is good for it's vistas, acting, and setting. Good once or twice. The book "Oil!" of which it's based on is better though.
