"I got it, but what the FUCK"
Well, this was the biggest let down ever. "Diary of the Dead" was by far the worst installment Romero has ever offered us, and I'm a big fan. It pains me to type this but it's true. The whole ordeal, right from the get go, was flawed. If your going to try to base a film around supposedly real people, then your going to have to find actors that can act like real people. The lack of intensity here was too obvious. The female lead, at one point has to blow her boyfriends head off and doesn't even blink. These are supposedly preppy collage kids, not ready to take on a world of zombies. Then we have the professor. Sure I'd get drunk too but this guy's dialog was over the top nonsense. People do not talk like that, especially when they are faced with a crisis like this one. Lame, lame, lame.
One thing I laughed at was when the crew was hiding out in the warehouse with the black guys, a zombie got loose. Not the funny part. The funny part was when he was found. This zombie is shambling along (in Romero style) and gets whacked in the head with a jar of acid of some sort. His head dissolves and it looks cool, but, a. there is no splash back on the thrower, and b. all I could think of was "An amazing new product, it's Dr. McGillicutty's amazing, instant zombie dissolver".
Truly an unbelievable epic. Well, not even an epic, a story. Slow paced. Bad.
I noticed that Romero kind of changed his m.o. Normally with Romero, the other non-zombie characters in the film end up going stir crazy or something and trying to fuck up the other, still sane characters. This didn't happen here. I guess they didn't have time with all the bad dialog going on.
