I remember being pumped up to see Cloverfield in January when i first saw the trailer for 10,000 B.C. and i must say i was hooked, it looked like an action packed epic and only furthered my anxiousness to see Cloverfield. When it finally was reviewed my expectations lowered heavily and based upon what i read i thought it would be one of those stupid movies you go to see just to have a good time watching irrelevant action scenes but oddly i was impressed by this movie. Roland Emmerich is known as a director who delivers heavy in your face action and top quality special effects to the point that the story becomes lost his other movies include Godzilla, Indepedance Day, The Patriot, and The Day After Tommorow but surprisingly enough 10,000 B.C had a coherant plot and enough action to satisfy you without overkill on the effects. I went in expecting dumb fun and walked out thinking "hey that was a cool little story".

While watching it felt like i was watching a myth, or a fable a very cool fantasy epic complete with a sexy princess, a noble but reluctant warrior, a master/teacher, treacherous villains, mythical creatures, hell this was a pretty cool movie and very original very few times did it succumb to cliches. People dump on it because of the historical innaccuracy but say nothing when Leonidas in 300 a greek king speaks with the thickest SCOTTISH accent since Sean Connery, it seems to me people just want an excuse to bitch because there haven't been any god awful movies to bitch about this year however 2008 is still young and Uwe Boll has four films due in a few months. The movie has it's problems the music is so so fitting but it doesn't stand out, the settings change from polar opposites without much of an explanation, the villains aren't very deep or developed and their motives aren't very clear, the action can sort of leave you with a "that's it" feeling but overall it's an entertaining ride worth a rent. It's not spectacular but it's nowhere near as bad as critics will have you believe.
