"Typical story... yet different."
I did like the film. I really, really wanted to see this bad in the theater. But I went out of country for most of the time it was in theaters, and I never got to see it. But thankfully, the day it hit DVD, I was there outside of Blockbuster. I was not totally disappointed, but I was let down a bit.
The story is pretty cool. Objects in mirrors being harmful. The concept has been done before, but more as a side event, not as a whole movie. The story is good, but the script follows any other old horror movie. Family man having problems. Man gets new job. Man finds out something weird about new job. No one believes man. Man tries to protect the ones he loves. Some one man loves dies (not gonna tell you who). Then "they" try to attack one person left man loves. They don't believe man at first. Then they do... you see, it's all been done before, but not with mirrors.
Nothing wrong with the acting at all. I know some people had problems with it, and said Kiefer Sutherland over-acted, but I only thought that in one, maybe 2 scenes. Other than that, neither amazingly good, nor bad. Amy Smart plays Sutherland's sister... she's part of the reason I wanted to see the movie so much. She's hot! But she has very, very, very little screen time, which made me sad :(
The director is Alexandre Aja. I think he also did a film called High Tension, which was a much better film. He doesn't do too bad. He did a loads of gore in High Tension... and this film is also gory, but not as much as High Tension!! He does good, but not awesome. Really nothing special good, or bad. He's been slacking since High Tension.
The visuals are pretty awesome actually. It's really cool all the gore, and how they did the ending scene. And the things in the mirrors are pretty awesome-looking... and nothing is fake or cheesy! And Amy Smart's butt is a noteworthy visual mention! ;)
Overall, a film worth seeing, but not one you have to go out and rush to see.

and BlizZz, I saw the unrated, but very rarely does the unrated actually add anything noticeable to it from the rated cut, unless it's PG-13, then they add language.
and even I thought in one scene I can remember he did overact, but as far as through the whole thing, and just in general, no, he doesn't over act at all. Both the Sutherlands are awesome actors.
So Crypt is this for the unrated version of the regular version, and would someone like me, would like this movie.
