"Finally! A TV show I actually watch!"
As of now, this has to be one of the best television shows on the air. It is humorous, and yet at the same time suspenseful.
Dexter is just a guy trying to fit in. He is in a wonderful relationship, and is on the police force. He is very good at his job. The "hunches" he has are always right. He is an expert on blood splatter. But no one knows his dark secret. He is a serial killer! Now we know why he is a blood splatter expert. hehe. But, he only kills to prevent death; meaning he kills the "bad guys" that would kill someone else, if he didn't. I like how they tell some of the story through flashbacks, showing us Dexter's childhood, and showing us why he is who he is today. As you can see, a very original, and intruiging plot that hasn't been done before.
The acting is excellent by the fine cast. Michael C. Hall plays Dexter. I have never heard of him before, nor seen him in anything else, but he is PERFECT for the role. I cannot see anyone but him playing our favorite serial killer. He has that kind of dry humor, and wit, and you just gotta laugh. But he also can play Dexter's darker side quite well. Jennifer Carpenter plays Debra, Dexter's sister. She is also a cop. Dexter and her help each other out. Well Dexter helps her more than she helps him. I have always liked Jennifer Carpenter. She is a better actress than what she is given credit for. She was Emily Rose in The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The movie was kinda boring, but she was excellent. Also she is in Quarantine, which I am looking forward to. But she does it again! Yet another great performance in Dexter.
A great show; if you are thinking about watching, think no further. But if you are thinking about catching whatever season is the newest, then you might want to rent the previous seasons on DVD. That's what I am doing!

While I like this show, the supporting cast aren't that impressive at all. The only reason I continued beyond episode 1 when I believed Michael Hall to be bad in the lead role was cuz having realized how poor the supporting cast was, I figured I'd give him a fair shot. Plus the alure of a near 11hr long serial killer case was a bit irresistable at the time having just started back at school with a 12hr day on my plate twice a week till 12/16. Yet my appreciation of the supporting cast hasn't grown, but my like of Dexter has.
I was also surprised that this was on Showtime considering how tame the whole thing is. No gore beyond what you see on today's basic crime shows. I at first believed Dexter's Laboratory of Death for his victims would be a nice gore fest that actually served a purpose beyond the lackluster need for it in modern horror, which this is not. But unfortunately it never got graphic. Only implications, and they don't cut it anymore.
Though considering that Seasons 1 & 2 are only $17 each at Best Buy then I may pick them up. Though Season 3 is still pretty pricy. I'll probably be waiting till next August to see Season 4 as I don't get paystations. The draw to the show of course being the season long, mystery serial killer appeal. Nothing else though, and that's weird considering that I'm still watching this.
and, dark Knight, it is more like the graphic stuff. like History of Violence. dont care to see that right next to my mom. this show doesnt bother me
It gets better and better
i love Mr. Brooks, and American Psycho, so that must be why I love the show. and Dexter is a good one to take advice from. lol
