"This May Not Put Tom Cruise Back On "Top" But he's certainly heading in the right direction."
I had the rare opportunity to see this about three months ago at a special screening. I even had chance to meet the director of Valkyrie, Bryan Singer. This is a highly enjoyable film to watch and Tom Cruise along with a great cast make it so. Yes there are no accents present but if you can get past that silly little inaccuracy you too will enjoy this.
Tom Cruise stars as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg of the German military. Him along with others played by such actors as Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten, Thomas Kretschmann, Eddie Izzard, Christian Berkel and Terence Stamp. These men have a plan that could end the truest form of tyranny and evil. In its basic form the plan is simple: Kill Hitler with a bomb. But before they even begin to scratch the surface they realize, easier said than done.
If they are to succeed they must be willing to do whatever is required, even if that means death.
In a country in the grips of evil, in a police state where every move is being watched, in a world where justice and honor have been subverted, a group of men hidden inside the highest reaches of power decide to take action. Based on the true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) and the daring and ingenious plot to eliminate one of the most evil men the world has ever known.
Not the best WWII film but it is something to watch and experience.
Watch as a very small group of men decide to stand up against Hitler and attempt to "cut off the head of evil" and end the nightmare. Like I said though, Easier said, than done.
