Apparently this show's run was from 1993 to 2000. I think I had maybe watched half an episode of Boy Meets World, before I screened this 3 disk set simply because the show looked like a retread of the much better, "Saved By The Bell." Also, I think that that half episode watching experience only happened because Alex Desert, who plays Eli Williams on the show, was originally supposed to narrate my movie Schusterman Levine: A Boxing Fable. Well, lets just say he never worked on my movie and I never watched this show again.

Flash forward to 2005 and Movieweb gives me this box set to review. I am immediately taken with the first episode, in which Cory Matthews is pining over his love for Topanga Lawrence. The episodes began to build up, I got really into ALL the characters, and I knew that I was sold on this show when the Alex Desert character came on, and I didn't really notice. Not that he wasn't that good, just seeing him on the screen wasn't any big deal. Truthfully, I think he did his best work on Becker.

Okay, Boy Meets World - The Complete Third Season isn't great TV, but it sure is a lot of fun. There are problems, dilemmas, awful situations but they always seem to work themselves out. While this show isn't better than "Saved By the Bell", it does have many relatable moments.

"The World According to Boy"
This is a quiz about the show. You are given a sentence and you have to accurately choose one of the options that you are given to complete it. While I think a disk like this could use a little more "oomph" in the extras department, this show is something that I think a lot of fans are certainly going to appreciate. Also, I really liked how they made playing this game very simple.

The Look
1.33:1 Aspect Ratio. This show's look has so much in common with "Saved By The Bell" one might think that these shows shared a set. Who knows, maybe they did? As with most shows for a younger audience, everything is brightly lit and done in such a way that it is easy to digest. Lets be honest, with only 30 minutes to get things started and wrapped up, a show like Boy Meets World cannot really waste any time being too arty, right? At the end of the day, while I think that this show is pretty typical, I did find myself right at home right from the moment I put the disks in the player.

The Sound
Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Nothing is really going to make you drop your jaw and be in awe of this show, but the sound certainly helps in giving Boy Meets World a very light feel. As long as I am able to hear what the characters are saying, and I don't have turn up my TV too loud to do so (in this case, I didn't), I am happy. While the humor is pretty stock in most departments, what won me over was the relationships between all the characters. Nothing seems artificial here. I believed that Cory's parents could really be his parents. He and Shawn could be best friends. And best of all (for Cory), Topanga could be his girlfriend.

The Packaging
There is a lot of orange on this cover. The front picture seems like a promo shot with Cory and Shawn coming out of their lockers. Next to them are the Eric and Topanga characters. The back features some shots from the show (mixed with more promo shots it seems), a good description of the box set's content and an extras/tech specs listing. The three discs that make up this set are packed nicely into 2 trays. Also inside are an episode listing and a nice note from Michael Jacobs that makes me want to see the rest of the show all the more.

I am actually really excited to backtrack a bit and get in touch with the first two seasons of this show. Sure, I know that it seems with TV fare like Boy Meets World, if you have seen one season then you have seen them all, but I really liked the way this show was done. There is a main character as an anchor, but this show is strong enough that it can go off and focus on the other characters and you don't lose interest.

I also loved the writing. Again, it's nothing that someone getting a Master's Degree in English Literature is going to really think is that great, but I don't think that that is the audience for Boy Meets World - The Complete Third Season. This show is meant to show kids in high school that everyone goes through problems, and that it's how you solve them or don't solve them that ultimately determines who you are.
