"I like this ship! It's exciting!"
The same could be said about the acting, the story, the visuals, and the directing. Finally, this is the Star Trek that I have always wanted to see.
I have always been a fan of science fiction, but I could not, for the life of me, get into Star Trek, though I have watched all of it's previous films. Yet, Abrams has successfully pulled this off, finding a cast that, uncanningly, matches the original Enterprise crew in terms of voice and presence. Brilliant execution!
My only tiffs about the film (reasons why I'm not giving it a 5 star rating) are as follows.
1: Way too much light glare. In space, on the bridge. It's kinda annoying to avert your eyes several times during a film, you know?
2: What's up with the red monster on the snowy planet? Is that the cousin of the Cloverfield monster or something? It doesn't look like something adapted for constant freezing conditions.
Other than that, I'm happy with the way things turned out. It was funny to see how the characters swapped positions from what they were doing to something they were meant to be from the old franchise. Bones was the best. Just enough humor to carry the story. Bana? Freak'en awesome villain in every way.
For anyone who's not a Trekkie, like me, you will find this take on Star Trek to be very exciting and unlike anything that man has gone before.
