THE BROTHERS BLOOM (2009)

"It tastes like tin foil."

Yay, it's niteowl's 40th review spectacular. I would just like to thank all my friends, and all those who criticized me, because I now know how a good review should be typed.

The film that receives today's lucky honor is, what! Oh my god. Guess what this film also receives the honor of being the 4th 5 star movie I have seen this year (the other three are Watchmen, Up, and Coraline). So, this excellent film is called The Brothers Bloom. It is an independent film that is really worth your time.

Like the poster says, this is a con-man movie. It's about two brothers, Bloom (Adrien Brody) and Steven (Mark Ruffalo). Bloom has never really liked his job, but Steven always convinces him to stay in the business.

On what Steven promises to be their final con, Bloom asks Steven to make friends with Penelope (Rachel Weisz), a dim witted heiress with a big heart, and a knack for strange hobbies, which even includes riding a unicycle while juggling chainsaws. Penelope eventually joins the brothers on their fake cover, which is smuggling antiques, but eventually helps them with actual cons.

The directing was great, and the visuals were absolutely stunning, but the acting was the film's key element. Rachel Weisz, made Penelope a lovable and funny character, and Ruffalo and Brody did a great job as the brothers. But the actress who stole the show was Rinko Kikuchi, who played Bang Bang, the brothers explosives expert. She spoke maybe 20 words in the film, but used hilarious expressions and actions to really make you laugh out loud.

Overall, and absolutely amazing film which I believe has the potential to become a cult classic.

Grade: 97.5% A+ Niteowl's final verdict.
