"Funny, action-packed, and full of transorming robots- what more could you want? "

It doesn't matter what you think of Michael Bay or if you like his movies. The bottom line here is that this movie is good-not just good, it's great. The fact that Steven Speilberg is executive producer makes it even more great. These two were born to do this movie. Michael Bay is known for his out-of-this-world special effects, and Speilberg knows a thing or two about alien visitors, having directed Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds. It makes perfect sense for the two of them to do this type of movie together.
Transformers is about a teenager named Sam Witwicky who buys his first car(which happens to be the transforming Bumblebee) to impress a very, hot girl in his class, named Mikayla. Sam soon realizes that he is caught in the middle of a war between the Autobots and the evil Decepticons, who are both after Sam for a pair of glasses that belonged to his great-grandfather, and hold the location of a cube that could transform all of Earth's technology into evil robots. Of course, the Autobots want to find this cube before the Decepticons, who want to use it to enslave mankind and control the universe with a massive army.
It's not just all special effects, though-there's actually a story behind it, and there are many moments with the humans that made me laugh out loud, whether they're alone or with the Transformers. From Sam's (Shia LeBeouf) parents asking him if he was having some "alone, happy, time" in his bedroom to Anthony Anderson, who's just funny, there is plenty of humor mixed in with the action.
Shia provides most of this, as he portrays teenager Sam Witwicky (excuse me if I spelt that wrong)perfectly. His co-star and romantic interest in the movie, sexy Megan Fox, is also good, but mostly provides something for the guys to be interested in when the robots aren't being shown, and she does. I never even heard of Fox before this movie, but now I know to watch for her.
That brings me to the robots, the main stars of the film. There isn't too much backstory to them, but enough so people who don't know too much about Transformers won't be confused, including a breif look at thier home planet.
One of the major highlights of the film is seeing them transform, which is probably one of the best achievements in visual arts in a movie next to 300 and Spider-Man 3, especially Optimus Prime. Optimus does, however, diliver one of few, dissapointments in the film, as he gets his @$$ handed to him by Megatron. Hopefully, in the sequel, he'll be more bada--.
The acting could have been better, too, and Starscream could have had more screen time, but it makes for a sequel and it doesn't take away from the pure awesomeness that is this movie. Overall, Transformers is a great movie for all to enjoy.
AR's score: 4.5 stars(9/10)
