"No, I can’t upstage Alec Baldwin! He’s the best actor in the world!"
Face it, people. If this wasn't ventriloquist dummies, you wouldn't love this movie. The humor is only about half new and fresh. It's the dummies that make you like it. Think... Go back to all those annoying, or probably in your opinion, good, jokes in the movie. Think... If there were actors in the place of all those dummies, would you still like this movie? ... How much would still be funny to you? Half? A quarter? A third? Anything? Probably about half, because all this movie really had going for it, is the dummies. Because right when they were writing that script, hardly any of it was funny. I can just picture the writers laughing their assess off. "Haha! This'll be so funny with puppets!" It's bad when you laugh at your own jokes.
Yea, this movie is bad. Simply, not much of it is funny. There are a few parts that I thought were good, and I also give these guys credit for building all those sets for the dummies, and taking all that time to work with them... But it's a shame not all of it is as good as it could've been.
The story is actually semi-good. Terrorists are attacking, and Team America needs to save the day! So they hire some actor to pretend to be a terrorist. But what's really weird, is that there aren't very many scenes of him doing what they hire him for. It's easy to explain, and not complex, but it could have been funny.
Trey Parker is the director. I guess he had a low budget to work with, because he not only directed it, but was pretty much half the voices. He was also one of the writers, too. But talk about bad comedic timing. It was all anticipated humor. Some of it was a nice surprise, but mostly not.
There were about 3-4 funny parts in the whole movie. Well, that's laugh out loud funny. There is a few minor snickers. The whole hour and a half seems to go on for about 2 solid hours, but it's really not. Matt Damon and the opening scene are 2 of the funniest parts.
So, overall, the funny parts aren't enough to make it worth the rental fee. However, if it's free... Why not? ... I guess.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone were the creators of "South Park". When they started that show they had little to nothing. So they did pretty much all of the voices. It's worked for them so far. And PArker has directed (almost) alll of the stuff they've done.
And they had a budget of about 30 mil. Good review, though.
But it WAS dummies so I guess we don't have to worry about it. And 3 lol moments? There's more than that.
This movie's hilarious and sometimes you have to get past the crude humor and actually listen. Did you even get the metaphor of assholes, pussies, and dicks in the long speeches?
and thanks for thinking this movie sucked. lol
