Start with the premise: This is the inevitable big-screen remake of some retro-cool relic, in this case the '60s cartoon series that for many boomers served as their introduction to what they would come to know as anime. The animated series, about a racer boy and his racing family.
In an act of creative derring-do, the brothers chose to keep all of those elements, to stay true essence of "Speed Racer".
All I can say is - DO NOT LISTEN TO THE IDIOT CRITICS!
I was never a really big fan of the cartoon. I really didn't know what to expect.
I saw the trailers, several spots about the making of the fim etc! Then I plucked down my movie dollar, and sat down, & then "POW!"..all I have to say is: LOVED this movie!!!
It was like nothing I'd ever experienced. The action was non-stop! I can't even explain the special effects...it was sort of like being in really colorful video game. It was like "Tron" meets Andy Warhol!
I loved "Speed Racer"!! It was very cool and very edgy!
"Speed Racer" was advertised SO poorly, and it makes me sad to know that this movie probably won't make a lot of money and probably won't stay in the theaters too long... but really, go see it while you can.
A+
