""I love this Ship. It's so exciting." - Simon Pegg/"Scotty""
Let me start by saying this is not the traditional Star Trek as we can all tell, and thank God. my dad is a Trekkie. My neighbors a Trekkie, and my uncles one too. But me? Naw. I've always been more a Star Wars guy. And thankfully so was our director.
***Warning, possible spoiler.***
I don't think so, but just in case, I don't want some random guy screaming: "Why didn't you put up a spoiler warning!!!" Lol.
This movie, was by far, surpassing every single Star Wars film. Except maybe Empire Strikes Back. Let me tell you. I had high hopes going into the theater, and higher hopes walking out. I went to a matinee with my two friends and my 63 year old pops. (Yes, he needs props for hanging with us younger me).
My friends had no idea what it was about, so i told them just wait and see. Well the story of this movie revolves around a young crew of recruits, piloting the U.S.S. Enterprise, and focuses mainly on two characters: James Kirk, and Spock. both of which ae different from whee they come, the former's dad being killed while saving him and 800 other souls (the opening credits, which wee fan-fucking-tastic), and therefore having a rebellious attitude and cocky demeanor.
The later, Spock; being a mixed Volcan (his dad) and human (his mom's side), has to choose either to completely accept his Volcan side and hide all emotions, or too keep the little bit of his mother's side, and always be an outcast for it. These two troubled men clash when they both decide to enter in Star fleet, each for different reasons. After three years, and a few brush ups considering tests, green woman,(those who watched know what I mean) and James meeting our beloved "Bones" Doc McCoy, they get a distress call. On the way there, James recognizes patterns of the Romulan ship that took the life of his father. This unfolds into an amazing story. I don't want to give anything away, but this thing was filled with humor, a lot more than I though actually, and a lot of unforgettable characters all of which do great acting.
We have Chis Pine doing a great job as the young, rebellious, somewhat charming cocky lead man, aka. Kirk.
We have Zachary Quinto as Spock, and I was hesitant about this, because Leonard was irreplaceable to me, but he does the best he can at filling his shoes which was pretty close. So good choice there.
Then there's the countless others. Zoe Saldana as the sexy smart Nyota Uhura. She doesn't really say her first name as you will see. Karl Urban as Doc McCoy, who does an outstanding job filling bone's shoes. I have watched 5 of the Star Trek films, and he does great as Doc. Then there's John Cho Hikaru Sulu which was a sweet surprise, since I thought he would have a smaller part. Then there's the comic Simon Pegg as the hysterical Scotty, again perfect choice. Anton Yelchin plays Pavel Chekov. now this was not some much a match, but still a great role, more like himself than Chekov. And last but not least Eric Bana as the bad guy, Neo, whose home planet was destroyed by Spock, or so he believes, in the future.
Everyone does great. They all have a few punch lines, my favorite, I think it was, you "Fvolcan bastard." Haha.
Now the script people say wasn't the strongest, but I thought it was pretty cool/deep. The writes definently worked with J.J. Abrams on doing a great job. As for the director, the visuals and amazing space scenes say's it all... Wow.
Overall I loved this film, and I recommend it for anyone wanting some good summer fun. Way better than Wolverine. Lol. I'm out.
