This film is so colorful, you'd think a Skittles factory blew up. If you enjoyed the original cartoon series, you should enjoy it.

Honestly, if you enjoyed the original cartoon series, you should enjoy it. It's just as over the top as the cartoon, and if you go into it with that knowledge you'll walk away from this entertained. It's nothing earth shattering, but it's not meant to be, it's a summer popcorn flick and it hits that mark.
The colors are very vibrant throughout the movie and have meaning. Some might argue that there's too much CGI and the car-fu is just so unrealistic (to which I will agree with, but there's nothing here that's meant to make this anything other than pure fantasy.) Look at all these movies that use wire work (ala Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.) It's the exact same thing in Speed Racer - pure fantasy.
Unlike others, I didn't find much fault with the acting. Some of the characters are meant to be over the top. I thought the veterans such as Goodman and Sarandon were solid, and Paulie Litt stole most scenes as Spritle. Christina Ricci was very nice to look at during the movie and with the exception of some of her dialog (which was meant to be corny), was also solid.
Take this movie for what it's worth, don't expect it to be anything other than what it's suppose to be and you'll probably enjoy it. If you think it'll be the best movie you'll ever see (or even the best movie this summer), then I think you'll be disappointed.
