"This celluloid abortion should be buried in a vault and shown to film students as an example of big Hollywood at its worst."

Michael Bay should be tarred and feathered for directing the steaming pile of feces that is "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". The film is an obscenity laden, racially offensive, and sexist orgy of CGI fighting robots. It takes a beloved cartoon and bastardizes it completely. The first film was somewhat watchable. This celluloid abortion should be buried in a vault and shown to film students as an example of big Hollywood at its worst.

The story, and I do use that term loosely, is about the Decepticons search for a secret weapon hidden on earth thousands of years ago. Megatron is the 'apprentice' of another Transformer called 'The Fallen', who has been exiled off earth and itching for a comeback. Sam (Shia LaBeouf) has a shard of the all-spark, which has given him the knowledge to find the location of the weapon. So the Decepticons are hell bent on finding Sam, while Optimus Prime and the Autobots must protect him, and the entire planet.

Before I rip into the parts of the film that really pissed me off, let's take a critical eye to something that Michael Bay is supposedly good at - action scenes. The film has every manner of robot fighting and destroying en masse carnage. The problem is that you never really see what's happening in detail. The scenes move at a rapid pace, with a lot of quick edits, and confusing imagery. I give them credit for two scenes, a fight with Optimus in a forest, and Devastator shredding a pyramid in Egypt. But all the other action is done in a way so you can't pay close attention. Meanwhile, and this is so amateurish, you have numerous scenes of Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox running in slow motion with explosions everywhere. The world is being blown to bits around them, but they remain unscathed as they run, in slow motion, through the destruction. It's been a while since I've seen slow motion this overdone and poorly used.

Now let's get right down to the suck. This movie is an hour too long. That hour is filled with some of the worst filler material in a film that is supposedly geared toward children. The language is crude, characters - Transformers dropping F-bombs, saying words like 'pussy' and 'shit' as if that's the limit of their vocabulary. Then you have two Autobots who look like monkeys, have gold teeth, and are pretty much doing a shucking and jiving routine throughout the entire film. Top this off with the fact that every woman is a silicon stuffed hoochie with tits, ass, and no real dialogue. Seriously, Megan Fox has almost no lines and she's noticeably absent from huge chunks of the film. But pops up when you need to see boobies bouncing in slow motion.

I'm stupefied that Steven Spielberg and the Paramount brass allowed this film to be released as is. It is not in the true spirit of the cartoon, has no cinematic value, and is truly distasteful. The cynic in me thinks that this entire film is just a huge advertisement for toy sales. They couldn't give a hoot about making a good movie, but wanted to pack in as many fighting robots as possible to line the shelves of toy stores. Michael Bay is a hack, plain and simple. Every time I want to give him a sliver of respect, he embarrasses himself with another brainless film. It will be a huge hit, but doesn't deserve a nickel. Hands down the worst film of the summer so far.

One of the guys below said he now hates all of Bay's movies just due to hating this one, even though he used to like them.

THAT PERSON IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST FUCKING IDIOTS I'VE EVER HEARD OF!

Changing your mind on good movies just because the same director did a movie you despised? TFH!?

Side note: good review man.

I agree with everything that you said julianroman.
Great review.
I mean this movie is poorly directed, like what you said in the action scenes you couldnt even tell what was going on, it was to fast and rapid. And the black robots, werent funny at all. They were just plain stupid. It didnt offend me but I thought it was just retarded. And the cut scenes to the dogs humping to the little robot humping Meagan Fox's leg. The humor in this movie was just horribly embarrasing. I didnt laugh once.
Alot of little kids will love this movie and all the robots kicking other robot's butt but if adults really enjoy this movie then I dont know what to think of them.
I give it 2 out of 5.

People like mb11 give people who actually LIKED the movie a bad name. No wonder the people who hated sound smarter.

"his review comes from someone who does NOT understand film making" He's an official reviewer, he must know a thing or two, and while I liked the movie, it's not the definition of good film making. YOU obviously don't understand film making.

Check out my review for why the movie isn't terrible. It's longer than just "IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!" and I make some good points...or so I'm told.

...Clearly don't know film Making. Yes story had its flaws, directing wasn't amazing - but for the sheer scale of this film, people should see it! Acting 1 / 5..... you are an idiot... 4/5 ATLEAST! Terrible unfair review. PLEASE NOTE - this review comes from someone who does NOT understand film making - GO SEE TRANSFORMERS ON THE BIG SCREEN, MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND!!!

He didn't write it but he outlined the whole thing himself. I COMPLETELY agree with everything in this interview, except with that it's the worst film of the summer...Terminator Salvation might be worse, or it was just a bigger disappointment I don't know.

I think people are forgetting that Bay doesn't write the s. If you want to blame someone for the story/dialogue, blame Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman...

Hey B, hope all is groovy out west. I figure a lot of people put a lot of hard work in the film that is good, sound editing and production design. But Bay can own the big failure like herpes, well deserved.

great review and the points you have in there are greatly put together under one united opinion! hate it.
people this is just a fun movie. like many people said a popcorn flick. did I wait for it. YES deffinitely. for the visuals. nothing else. this truly backs up my excitment for the movie. I'm still cheking it out though this friday.
both ways good review. truly detailed review and talks about the movie carefully.
btw, last paragraph, couldn't agree more, hollywood is now all about the money not the movie. not only in toy sales but in many other things also.

Man, Bay's got the robots with THAT vocab being their limit? that's just as retarted as saying it on their own. And the girls, even the co-star, all being silicom laden wastes of time? Jeez, now I REALLY can't believe this is getting so many 5 star reviews!

I almost entierly agree with this review. My only difference is I thought the visuals and the action were very good, but that doesn't make up for the *cough*story*cough*. The best metaphore I can come up with for this movie is, it's like dropping a 75lb bag of hammers on your foot. It gives you some excitement and adrenaline for a moment, than you realize how bad it sucks.

If your over 23 and thought this was a good movie I feel sorry for you and this country is in more trouble then I thought. Michael Bay is a joke and I now hate movies he as made before this that I actually liked. Steve Spielberg should also be embarrassed for putting his name on such utter garbage. I know this movie is geared towards kids so I feel I must warn parents about taking any kid under 14 to see this garbage cause they might end up taking 10 steps back in there development. DONT SUPPORT THIS MOVIE....... I went to see it cause I wanted to see for myself how pathetic it was.........

what the? damn i though "the fallen" of the title was a reference to a comeback by the..uh, what would you call it? evil transformers from the last film, like with "Empire Strikes Back" meaning literally that. hmm, introducing a new character just for a sequel that's only defined as such by the returning characters rather than themes and situations like the past 2 batman films? It won't be as accepted if he's just randomly thrown in there as you've written if it wasn't referenced or implied in the first film.

So, all I can say about your decent review is: Here here!

I see your points and I start to hate this movie, then I realize this is a MOVIE not a FILM. They robots have personalities that are over the top in some parts but better than the lack luster cartoons in the 80's. I give it to you if you don't like the movie and I agree it has it's problems but you are over looking something. IT GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING, what depth do you expect from it? It's all about the action, which I know it doesn't mean it should be as ridiculous as this film is in some places but it's a pop-corn flick. It doesn't try to be something it's not, which is where I really draw the line for a movie. It's a FUN, MINDLESS action movie and it knows it. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the art of film making the dedication the beautifully crafted shots and stories the emotions they bring out in me, the amazing acting down to the smallest nuance. But there is nothing wrong with a good ole fun flick to watch.

And if you knew the original of Transformers they were originally made to SELL TOYS.
