"Really, not that funny."
Ok, so I know Clerks is Kevin Smith's first movie, but when I was watching it, I got bored out of my mind. Thankfuly, he's gotten better. I think this is his second film, but even this is better than Clerks. The 2 Smith films I haven't seen are Dogma, and Jesery Girl. But aside from this and Clerks, I've liked/loved all of Smith's films. Hey, I even kinda liked this one... kinda. But it's ok, Kevin Smith had a rough start.
The story is basically nothing. Some guy broke up with his girlfriend, but I didn't really care that much. Anyway, he goes to the mall with a friend, and he sees his girlfriend. And from there, they talk about sex, meet Stan Lee, and try to stop a game show from playing (I don't know why it's in a mall). All this for an hour and a hlaf. I had my fair share towards the end, and it was getting old. This story doesn't provide many laughs. I know a lot of you people out there like this, but seriously, I wasn't laughing too much. Jay and Silent Bob are pretty much the only good parts.
The acting is ok, some of them did bad, and the lead guy was questionable sometimes. Of course Jason Mewes as Jay, and Kevin Smith as Silent Bob were good.
Kevin Smith is the director and writer, obviously. He has improved since here. I mean, in his later films, he adds to the film by directing skills. But this one, he kinda just seems to set the camera up, and and yell "action" and "cut". I was expecting a little more from Smith.
Visually, I actually enjoyed colorful mall. I'm glad this was in color, because fro some reason Black & white movies just don't seem to entertain me as easily. Plus most of the girls were all very pretty.
Overall, this wasn't an awful film, and it sure is better than Clerks. But it doesn't come even close to some of his other amazing films. And even though it isn't all that funny, it is still a watchable film, and I give a light (extremely light) recommendation to.
No spell check.
