AUGUST RUSH (2007)

"It is a marvelous and memorable story with moving performances that will leave audiences thinking about the film even on their way home from the theater."

Twelve years ago two people met, fell in love, and conceived a baby. Lyla (Keri Russell), a concert cellist, and Louis (Jonathan Rhys Myers), an Irish singer and songwriter were both drawn to a rooftop where they listened to a haunting rendition of the song Moondance. Their love lasted an entire night, but in the morning their lives went in separate directions.

When Lyla discovers she is pregnant, she decides to keep the child, against her father's wishes. Then when she is in an accident, he thinks the best thing to do is tell her she lost the baby boy so she can concentrate completely on her music. That one lie changes the lives of Lyla, Louis, and their son Evan (Freddie Highmore).

Evan lives his life in an orphanage but always hears music in everything around him. After all, he is the product of two gifted musicians, and the boy is a musical prodigy. He knows deep in his heart that one day his parents will find him - if only he plays the music.

This untrained boy can play anything. In hours he is an accomplished guitar player, and later pianist. He composes symphonies and has music running through his veins. But through all of this, he longs for his parents.

In the meantime, Lyla and Louis keep the memory of their brief love alive, and each yearn for the other. Then, when Lyla's father confesses his sin, she sets out on a quest to find the son she never knew she had. This boy, who has changed his name to August Rush, is part of her love for Louis, and means everything to her.

This is a deep story of love and dreams, and courage. "I believe in music the way some people believe in fairy tales," says young August. "What I hear came from my mother and father. Maybe that's how they found each other. Maybe that's how they'll find me." Although he never knew his parents, he knows the music will bring them together. Music is the key - the key to their family.

Music is the guiding force for all of the characters. It's a strong magnet that brings them all together. It brought Lyla and Louis together the first night they met. It brings them together again. It is what drives Evan/August every day of his life. "The music is all around us. All you have to do is listen," says August. And these three characters always listen to the music.

This movie is a heartfelt story of three very intense people, their love for music, and their love for each other. It is a marvelous and memorable story with moving performances that will leave audiences thinking about the film even on their way home from the theater.
