"Take Your Greatest Fear, And Multiply It By X."

Great addition into the X-Files timeline. A deepening of the chronological mythology. This DVD is a barebones edition.
The epic mythos of The X-Files universe come to movie format, bigger, better, and bolder than the Fox TV show. The X-Files: Fight the Future takes place between Season 5 and Season 6 of the hit Fox TV show, respectively. And in that respect, it is actually pretty entertaining. The story develops as fans are rewarded with revealing plot details revolving around the mythology of the show, the alien conspiracy and the shadowy Syndicate who have been covering it up since the 1950s.

Questions are answered, answers create more questions, new characters are introduced, some characters go through radical changes, and a few are completely killed off. Mulder learns new details in his continuing quest for The Truth, and Scully is inevitably involved in the pursuit. Her character endeavors some pivotal changes, as she is drawn to the point of no return with Mulder and their platonic relationship. By the end of the film, we witness the growing appreciation they have for one another, and why they must seek The Truth together.

Commentary with Director Rob Bowman, Writer Frank Spotnitz, and Creator Chris Carter
Informative.

The Truth Behind The Making of The X-Files Movie
This is the only featurette on the disc. Typical "making-of" documentary.

The Look
The picture is excellent.

The Sound
The only audio option is the DTS transfer from the original 1999 track.

The Packaging
Packaging design is done well. The red color scheme and the big, slanted X, and the "Fight the Future" subtitle under the last word feel epic for the big screen debut of The X-Files. The actor's/actress' faces would have been cool with the red color over them, like the VHS, but tit for tat. They went in the same direction with the sequel using the blue color scheme.

To quote Frank Spotnitz ~

"We are working on packing the [re-issued] DVD and Blu-Ray DVD releases with as many extras as they will fit, including video and audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, bloopers, trailers, a new documentary, and several other cool surprises."

Well, Frank, if that were true, then we'd have an alternative, re-released Two-Disc Special Edition DVD to choose from, but we don't. Instead, you decided to only target the Blu-ray audience with the desired edition, even though the overrated, overpriced Blu-rays are not the industry's preferred format.

My feelings on this issue aside, it's a toss-up when watching Fight The Future and watching I Want to Believe. XF1 is a classic Mythology film relating to the mythological elements of the show. XF2 is a Stand Alone relating to the best stand-alone, "monster-of-the-week" episodes of the show. And I am completely convinced that the inevitable XF3 will be the last Mythology thread to end the timeline. The final closure to The X-Files.
