ROLE MODELS (2008)

"Large is large. In fact tall is large and grande is Spanish for large. Venti is the only one that doesn't mean large. It's also the only one that's Italian. Congratulations you're stupid in three languages."

Alright, so I saw the trailer for this movie for the first time when I went and saw "SAW V" back in October for my birthday (Great movie by the way. Lolz!!!!!). It actually sparked my interest A LOT, but I decided that I'd most likely end up seeing the movie on DVD, since I had plans for my Gift Card to the movies (Thanks Crypt!!!!! LOLZ!!!!!), but then VIS started a rant about how I'd like the movie and it wasn't completely crude humor, and I was like "I already want to see it." LOLZ!!!!! So I decided then that, what the hell, I'd go see it. I went and had my Dad take me to the theater. It was a great movie, and the overall outcome of the movie was one that actually really surprised me a lot. It had a great moral story to it, and though it had some crude humor, it wasn't a lot, and the movie ultimately didn't rely on that to give the laughs. The characters in the movie in my opinion are pretty cool, and they most definitely did an awesome job at making it a great movie. PLUS! I got one hell of a surprise when my favorite Band became involved in the film, so that was definitely a good thing.

The director of this film was David Wain, who directed one of the few Will Ferrell movies that I really liked, and that was "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." He does a great job with this movie, which is something that I bit my nails on for because I generally know the direction in which movies that come out this day and age in the comedy genre are usually nasty comedies with no point to them except for to talk about sex, drugs, and alcohol as if they were funny and making it okay to do them. I'm getting sick of those comedies, no that's a lie, I'm ALREADY sick of those comedies, and it was nice to see this, which had SOME jokes like that, but most of all had a really good plot, and a good message to go with it, plus they worked a lot of cool things into it. Definitely a great job on the directing, and David Wain definitely knew what it was that he was doing when he started directing this movie, and the end result was something that was definitely good. The writers for this movie are kind of plenty, but I'll name them all anyway. First of all we have Paul Rudd and David Wain, a star and the director of the movie, and they're assisted by Ken Marino and Timothy Dowling, and all four of these men write then screenplay adapted from the story created by Timothy Dowling and W. Blake Herron. The writers definitely create a good story for this one, and it may not be INCREDIBLY original, but the way that they go about it is actually pretty original, so that's DEFINITELY a good thing. The writers create for us a story that we'll enjoy, and there's absolutely no doubts about that, well there may be some, but not too many. So the director and the writers definitely worked together well and created for us an awesome and somewhat touching movie that we can all love most definitely.

This is the first movie in a while that I've reviewed that doesn't take store in visuals, and doesn't rely on them at all. However, there ARE visuals that I'd like to mention, most definitely visuals that I'd like to mention. The first is the look of the Minotaur truck. It's really cool, I thought, with lots of visuals and such, and it even has a flame-throwing device, and THAT is awesome. lolz. Then of course the Minotaur suit that Sean William Scott's character, Wheeler, wears. It's really dorky looking, but definitely does the effect well, and makes it worth the watch. That's for damn sure. Then of course there is the whole L.A.I.R.E. world, where all the nerds flock to play a roleplaying game, much like a live action RuneScape, if you know what RuneScape is. It's a really nerdy look to everything, but the costumes that they invent for every character to wear are either A) completely amazing, or B) Still awesome because in some cases it shows how little money different people had, and the costumes showed that as well. I liked the overall feel of the visuals for L.A.I.R.E. it was pretty neat, and if I was still into that kind of stuff, then I know that I'd be wanting to jump into the screen and join in on all the fun, even if that does sound super-nerdy. lolz. Definitely good visuals for what the movie needed in visuals, which isn't good. Definitely a great job on visuals, that's for sure.

The storyline of this one, is the one aspect of the whole movie that really surprised me and made me happy with it. I was expecting it to be packed with crude humor, but still be funny, sometimes the crude ones do that to me, I hate them, but they make me laugh enough to like them. However, after leaving the theater from this movie, I was overall really surprised with it. I mean, sure, it had some crude humor, but like I said earlier, the movie didn't completely rely upon that crude humor. It was just there to be there, and I must admit that some of it even made me laugh. Definitely good, but the thing that surprised me most of all about the story was how touching it was, and the moral that it gave to the story about the importance of friendship, and believing in not only yourself, but others to make everything better. It almost made me cry. lolz. Anyway, it was a really cool, and somewhat original storyline. Two men are best friends, and work for the same energy drink company. When they crash the company car, and cause a ruckus at a school, they face either thirty days in jail, or doing community service at a local Adult-Youth Cooperation Group. They pick the group, and now they face their toughest challenge yet: Being Role Models. I really enjoyed the storyline of this movie, I was never bored with it, and it kept my attention throughout the whole movie. They really did a good job of delivering an awesome and hilarious story, while at the same time giving it a good message, which is something that movies these days have trouble with. lolz. So great job on the storyline of this movie, you'll definitely enjoy it, that's for DAMN sure. lolz.

Starring in this movie as Wheeler, is comedy actor Sean William Scott, who is from such movies as "American Pie" and "Rundown." Wheeler is best friends with Danny Donahue, although it seems that Wheeler is a bit more enthusiastic about the friendship, as well as his job. Wheeler works for a company that produces an energy drink called "Minotaur." He's the mascot, and what he does is go around to schools with Danny, drink Minotaur, and deliver a message to the kids that they should drink Minotaur, instead of doing drugs. Then Wheeler decides to through a surprise party for Danny because Danny's met his anniversary of sorts for working with the company. He isn't dejected when Danny doesn't seem to have any fun, since Wheeler's used to that with Danny. However, the next day, Wheeler finds out that Danny's girlfriend, a girlfriend who's been living with Danny for a while now, has just broken up with him, and Wheeler tries to calm Danny down so he'll be ready for their next school visit. He does so by playing KISS, Wheeler's (And Mine!!!!! LOLZ!!!!!) favorite Band. Danny doesn't like it though, and when they reach the school, Danny delivers a speech that is less then good, and basically tells the kids to do drugs, and that life sucks. On their way out, they find their truck being towed, and Danny decides to steal it back, but somehow they end up on the School's Bull Statue. Now they face either thirty days of Jail Time, or working at a local group called Sturdy Wings, that provides mentors for troubled, or seemingly troubled kids. Wheeler decides that the Community Group would be better than getting raped in jail, and so he gets Danny to do it, too. When they meet the kids that they're going to mentor, Wheeler is partnered with a kid named Ronnie Shields, a little spitfire that no one has been able to deal with for a while, and his mentors barely last. However much that Wheeler finds Ronnie to be annoying, Wheeler soon realizes that the kid and himself have a lot in common, and Wheeler begins to have fun. Which seems to be different from Danny and his kid, Augie Farks. Sean William Scott is actually one of my all time favorite Comedy Actors, and in this movie he does a great job as Wheeler. He gets Wheeler's party boy nature down really well, and plays down the whole feelings and emotions of the character making it really cool. He delivers a performance that is convincing, believable, and realistic, and he makes it a character that you can really feel for (Since he got dragged into this whole ordeal just because he was WITH Danny. He really didn't even do anything, but he's being a trooper, despite how much he wants to party, and goes with everything.) and even relate to (Since I'm sure you've been in an ordeal JUST because you were with someone else, and you got in trouble for it, even though you didn't really even do anything. I know I have. Annoying as shit, isn't it????? LOLZ!!!!!). He was definitely an great casting choice for this role.

Starring in this movie as Danny Donahue, Wheeler's friend, and the basically fun-free and depressed (Well, kind of. lolz.) friend of the two, is Paul Rudd, whom I'm not familiar with except that I know he was in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and I THINK "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," not sure on the last one, though. Danny Donahue is a man who is working in a job that he absolutely hates, with a friend who constantly annoys the shit out of him, even IF Wheeler is just trying to be nice and have fun. Danny of course works with Wheeler at the company that makes "Minotaur," an energy drink that turns your pee green, lolz. He goes around with Wheeler, who, as I've stated already, is the mascot of the team, and wears the Minotaur suit, while Danny is the speaker, and he delivers the message that the kids should drink Minotaur instead of doing drugs, and that for every Minotaur that is bought then the Minotaur company is going to donate money to their school. Danny hates the job, but he does it anyway so that he can make money. When Danny returns with Wheeler one time, he finds that Wheeler has thrown him a party to celebrate his anniversary with the company, and Danny of course absolutely hates the idea, since he doesn't want to be reminded of his sucky job all the time. So the next day he is in an incredibly pissy mood, and when him and his girlfriend, Beth, go out to get a coffee he gets into a huge fight about it, and she ends up deciding to break the relationship up. Now Danny is even more depressed, and so he goes with Wheeler to their next job, and gets pretty much drunk off of Minotaur. When he delivers his message, he just says fuck it, and tells all the kids that they should just do drugs because Minotaur turns your piss green, and life sucks. So as he and Wheeler are leaving the disastrous meeting Danny finds that the Minotaur truck is being towed, and so in a split second decision, he jumps into the truck, starts it up, and attempts to drive off of the tow truck. Soon, though, Danny finds himself and Wheeler up on top of the school's statue. Now he's in trouble. His now-ex-girlfriend, Beth, is a Lawyer, and so she tells them their options. They can either go to jail for thirty days, or go work at the Sturdy Wings Association. He's all ready to just do the thirty days of jail time, and be done with it, but Wheeler talks him out of it and into the mentor program. Danny discovers that the owner of the Sturdy Wings program, Gale Sweeny is completely nuts, the results of being a former crack addict, and doesn't trust anyone, so that's not good because she's not on either of their sides and is constantly looking for reasons to kick them out. Soon Danny meets the kid that he is to mentor, and this kid is Augie Farks. Augie is a kid who is very shy and doesn't talk much. He introduces Danny to the world of L.A.I.R.E. a roleplaying game, and soon Danny gets in trouble with the "King" of L.A.I.R.E. At first Danny doesn't want anything to do with Augie, and just is there because he has to be, but he soon finds out that him and Augie have a lot in common, and they start to get along very well. Though I don't really know who Paul Rudd is all that well, he does a great job as this character, and really makes the sarcastic, and seemingly fun-hating character really good. He gets down all of the feelings, emotions, and troubles of the character, as well, and delivers a performance that is completely convincing, completely believable, and completely realistic, as well as making it a character that you can feel for (Since he's having so much going on in his life, and now he's been dumped, and facing jail time. His life seems to really be going on edge.) and even relate to (Since I'm sure you've had moments in your life where you think that everything is going wrong, and at every turn something else goes wrong, and so you just start to say, "Fuck it all." You know? I know I've had moments in MY life like that, anyway.). He was definitely another great casting choice for this movie.

Starring in this movie as Danny Donahue's "Little," Augie Farks, is actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse, whom before now I really didn't like because of his role as McLovin in the incredibly retarded movie, "Superbad." Augie Farks is a complicated kid. He's the oldest kid in the whole Sturdy Wings program, but he's also the only kid that is there for pretty much no reason at all. He's got issues at home, with a new step-dad who thinks he's a wimp, and not really worth his time, and a Mom who loves him, but thinks that he's got something wrong with him because of all of Augie's fantasy works. Every time he tries to bring something up about those things he just gets told that it's nice, but not real. Augie is big into the fantasy world, and what we in society today refer to as all of the "Nerdy Things." He plays in a huge role-playing world called L.A.I.R.E., which, like I explained, is a lot like the internet role-playing game "RuneScape," which I used to be really in to. The reason that Augie has been put into the Sturdy Wings Program is because of the fact that he DOES like all of this stuff, and his parents don't think it's very healthy. Now he's a "Little" (Which is what they call the Kids in the Sturdy Wings Program. lolz.), and soon he meets Danny Donahue, his "Big" (Which is what they call the Adults in the Sturdy Wings Program. lolz.). At first Augie doesn't like Danny at all, since Danny seems to look weirdly on him because of the cape for L.A.I.R.E. that Augie always has to wear. However, Augie starts to get used to Danny, and invites Danny to come to L.A.I.R.E. with him and see what it was all about. Danny agrees, which Augie is excited about, but when the King of L.A.I.R.E. comes by, and Danny refuses to bow, he makes it harder for Augie in the world with the king, even if the king is a big jerk. However, Augie still tries with Danny, and even makes Danny a patch to join his country, Zanthia, in the L.A.I.R.E. realm. Soon, Danny starts to train with Augie, and they begin to get along VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY well, and Augie really enjoys spending time with him. Augie also finds out that Danny is there against his will, and finds that once again they have a lot in common. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, though at first a despised actor, has moved into the category of actors that I call "The Hit-And-Miss Actors." It means that they've had good and bad. If Christopher Mintz-Plasse does another good movie like this one, then he could very well hit the "Actors I Like" category, and work his way into "My Favorite Actors" category. lolz. Anyway, Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays this character well, getting down all of the character's feelings, worries, and emotions down, and really gets the characters nerdy nature down well, too. He delivers a performance that is completely convincing, completely believable, and completely realistic, and makes it a character that you can feel for (Since he is in a place that he doesn't want to be in, where everyone is YOUNGER than him, and no one seems to understand him, and judges him because of what he likes and how he acts, calling him a "Nerd," and such things like "Panzy" and "Sissy.") and even relate to (Since I'm sure that you've felt out of place somewhere where you don't want to be AT ALL, and I'm also sure that you've been judged as something because of how you act, or how you dress. I know both things have happened to me, and it really does suck, I know.). He was definitely yet another great casting choice for this movie.

Starring in this movie as Wheeler's "Little" is Bobb'e J. Thompson, and his character is of course, Ronnie Shields. Ronnie is a little black kid with a big mouth. His Dad abandoned him at a young age, and now his Mom has put him in the Sturdy Wings program so that he could try and calm down a little, learn to watch his language, and not be so vulgar. Ronnie's been in the Sturdy Wings Program for quite a while now, and he can't seem to keep a "Big" for too long, since he drives them crazy and gets them trouble, and is just a little snot to them. He doesn't really care what anyone else thinks about him, and is constantly making fun of everyone else, and just TRYING to get everyone else in trouble. Soon, Gale, the lady running the Sturdy Wings Program, as I've mentioned, seems to think that he's a lost cause for her organization. However, soon Wheeler and Danny Donahue show up, and she Wheeler with Donnie. Donnie immediately tries to get Wheeler in serious trouble, but it fails since Gale already knows his tricks, and though she doesn't like Wheeler, she's not going to believe what Ronnie does. Ronnie constantly tries to annoy Wheeler into quitting like he does for every other big that is brought to him. However, Wheeler isn't breaking one bit, and this is starting to drive Ronnie nuts. One day, as Ronnie is spending time with Wheeler against his will, Wheeler decides to show Ronnie where he lives. Ronnie notices a pinball machine with KISS on it, and asks who "These Clowns" were. Wheeler is aghast at the fact that Ronnie's never heard of KISS, and immediately starts explaining things, and then plays KISS's epic song, "Love Gun" for him, explaining what it's about (Rather graphically, and a bit different than what I think it's about. lolz!!!!!). Now Ronnie really gets along with Wheeler because he likes him and they get along very well, and though he doesn't say it, he really looks up to Wheeler. However, Ronnie doesn't really like Danny or Augie at all, and constantly is making fun of them, and being a jerk, though Wheeler tries to get him to stop, very fruitlessly, I might add. Ronnie starts to like the Sturdy Wings Program even more, and is glad that Wheeler isn't a "Wimp," or a normal "Honky White Boy." lolz. Bobb'e J. Thompson does a great job as this character. He's a little actor, but he's definitely a good one, and he delivers his performance as such, getting down all of the character's feelings, worries, and emotions, as well as his tough and selfish style, and the little spitfire that Ronnie is, and making it all mix together nicely and work very well. He delivers a performance that is completely convincing, completely believable, and completely realistic, and he makes it a character that you can really feel for (Since his Dad walked out on him and his Mom, and he just wants a father figure, but can't seem to find one, and acts out because he doesn't want to get too close to anyone because he's afraid that THEY might abandon him as well.) and even relate to (Because I'm sure it's seemed like someone has walked out on you before, and made you feel lonely, and like you don't want to EVER have someone get close to you again, lest they run away, too, and leave you alone.). He was DEFINITELY ANOTHER great casting choice for this movie.

All in all this was definitely a great and funny and touching movie, and yes I do mean all of that at once because it is. I'm sure that you'll love it as much as I did, too. The directing of this movie definitely is good, and the man behind it all definitely knew what it was that he was doing, and how to create a good film. He really carries out the feel of the whole movie, and makes it a really good one. Definitely knows what he's doing, and I hope to see some more good and funny films from him in the future. The writers of this movie are definitely aplenty in a couple of different spots, and they definitely create for us a story that we can somewhat relate to, and one that we'll really love, I know I did anyway. The writers really spin us a story that's good, like I say, and though it may not be an original one, the spin they put on it DEFINITELY is, and it's DEFINITELY fun. The visuals for this movie are done very well, for the little that they have, and everything is definitely put together very well. It's neat to see all of the different things that they come up with to go along with the storyline, and it's all definitely done very well. The storyline of this movie, as I've said a few times already, is one that may not be the most original, but is one that is original in the way it is told, and it really makes you feel good. Definitely a great storyline that keeps your attention throughout the whole thing. At least, I know I never got bored throughout the whole movie, and laughed quite a lot in it. The acting of this movie ties everything together and makes it even more funny than it already was, if that's even possible. All of the actors and actresses deliver performances that are completely convincing, completely believable, and completely realistic, and they make them characters that you can really feel for, and even relate to, on variously different levels. So if you're not believing me yet, then it's your fault because this is DEFINITELY a movie that is worth the ticket price. It's good for quite a few laughs, and I'm POSITIVE that it's one I'll never grow tired of!!!!! So if you haven't seen it yet, and WANT to see it, then go out and see it NOW!!!!! Even if you DON'T think you want to see it, then go and see it anyway because you will DEFINITELY NOT be disappointed!!!!! LOLZ!!!!!

the younger generation won't like this movie probably because they're prudes.. but this movie was hilarious.. SWS was a perfect sidekick to Paul Rudd, they complemented each other almost flawlessly and without missing a beat..

I just saw this movie over Transporter 3 the other night and am very glad I did. Would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 15. You'll love it.
