DONNIE DARKO (2001)

"Warning: must view movie more then once to understand plot."

I made the mistake of watching this movie at night, and could not sleep because I was convinced Frank was in my closet. Anyways, the end result was that I researched the movie on the net and I rewatched the movie in hopes to gain some sort of closure. There seems to be no clear cut "solution" to the film. I personally think the plot suggests that death is our main purpose in the universe, and life is incidental. We are here to make sure that time paradoxes don't happen. Our deaths insure this. Anyways, I have seen this moment of death type movie re-occur a couple of times(Jacob's Ladder, Sixth Sense, etc.). With the advent of modern science suggesting that near death experiences are the creations of chemicals in our brains, I often wonder about people who die in explosions where their bodies are burnt to ashes(or when people get smashed by plane engines). Surely, they do not have near death experiences. Anyways, this whole idea of tangent universes and fourth dimensionality could obviously be what is going on. Anyways, this film leaves alot to the imagination, and I know this puts off the audience. Heaven forbid the viewer is not being spoon fed the answers to life's hardest questions (yet no one seems to ever question the source of these answers). However, the director has a resopnsibility to warn the audience that he doesn't really know what hes talking about, and that as an audience member, you may be forced to spend several sleepless nights researching answers. Ergo, I think the movie should have the following warning stamped on its DVD box: must view movie more then once to understand plot.

I ended up buying the dvd. This was a big mistake because I listened to the director commentary and realized he is an idiot.
