"Yes Man" is a very funny film with a nice undertone."
"Yes Man" is a hilarious movie that surprised me in many ways. I knew from the trailer that it was going to be a riot but I thought it might lack story and the directing might be poor, but they proved me wrong. It will give you some life lessons as well as a few hard laughs.
It starts out with Karl looking for some movies at the rental store. He gets a call from his friend asking if he wants to go out. He says no and that he is too busy. Obviously, he is not too busy and lucky his friend is outside to catch him in is big lie. His friends resent him for never saying yes or doing anything with them. Karl works at a bank and when one of his past friends comes to the bank he meets up with him. He tells him about how is life has changed because of this seminar. He eventually goes to this seminar with his past friend. The host of the seminar calls him out, talks to him and gives him a challenge. The challenge is that he must say yes to everything asked of him.
This is where the craziness begins and the laughs come at a dizzying pace. His first challenge is to take a homeless guy to a park where he drops him off and then his car runs out of gas. He walks to a nearby gas station where he meets a young woman. The woman takes him back to his car where he gets her number. Because of this challenge, him saying yes to everything in his life, he has great things happen to him and bad things happen to him. He gets past these matters but he loses a few things along the way. The stuff that follows is hilarious like the rest of the movie but soon spins out into an outrageous ending.
The story is great thanks to the screenwriters who piece together a funny script with a few lessons that make the story what it is. But there are a few things wrong with it. Instead of having gag after gag they should of have developed a little more chemistry between Karl and the woman. They also could have taken the relationship elsewhere but I am still happy with the outcome of the story.
The acting is good from the leads but quite annoying from some of the supporting roles. Jim Carrey plays the same character he has in previous films so I am sure he has that mastered down. Zooey Deschanel, who plays the woman does an excellent job. I think these are the types of roles she should have in the future. Now onto the bad. Terence Stamp, who plays the host of the seminar is bad in this role. Don't get me wrong, he is a great actor but I think this was the wrong choice for him. I also think the actors who play Karl's friends are either over acting or just do a bad job.
The director is Peyton Reed. He does a good job directing but I think he should have evened the jokes out with the character development. Hopefully, he gets another directing job so he can show off his talent.
The visuals are nice especially the stunts with him bungee jumping and the motorcycle scenes are made well.
So go see "Yes Man" and expect more than just a mindless comedy but a movie with a good story that will entertain with laughs along the way.

and I agree with your opinion on Terrence Stamp
But I'm gonna have to go with Foy:Rorschach on this movie
