This movie was merely a bridge to the future 6th film from the 4th film.
I have noticed a lot of people disliking this franchise on this website and I'm actually puzzled by this. Why? The whole moral meaning behind Jigsaw and the films is to cherish your life. Ungratefulness is plaguing our world. You can see it everywhere. Even I forget about that little tiny sentence and take small and big things for granted, like my parents unfortunately. But at least I can admit it. Others take their girlfriends, boyfriends, wives & husbands, friends and neighbors for granted all the time. With no remorse. We are selfish fuckers through and through which is utterly depressing in my opinion.
(Contains spoilers below)
With that being said, this film answers a few tiny questions from the beginnings of the original Saw all the way to the 4th film. One of them is the whole "who is Jigsaw's complice?" You find out at the end of 4 and where the 5th movie begins that Detective Hoffman has been helping Jigsaw this whole time, from the very beginning with him helping getting the Dr. from the 1st film etc. The movie itself wasn't has clever as the previous films however. Which was disapointing. The whole movie had Agent Stramm following the murder cases and it showed flashbacks of how they did certain things and where they were. The coolest thing that let you in on was when they showed Jigsaw telling Hoffman he had to watch the games. Which if you recall from the first film they point out that Jigsaw likes to watch his "sick little games".
(The ending)
Was kinda predictable, which again sucks. Cause we already know there will be a twist somewhere in the end of the movie. Usually they are unpredictable and really cool revalations. I did like how the trap itself was not the box instead the room which will be his tomb which btw Jigsaw says in almost every one of his game's audio tapes. Which was kinda clever in its own way. The only thing I'm confused about is he basically the new Jigsaw or what? The tape at the end was Hoffman's voice instead of John's, which I didn't like. He sounded exactly the same, there was no voice manipulation on the recording. That's like Superman talking exactly like Clark Kent...I'm sure somebody will notice lol.
There were parts that intrigue me which they didn't answer as well, such as the box John gave to his lawyer so he could give it his ex wife at the time of his death. They watch a video with him apologizing and saying he loves her and it was touching I will admit. After the video, the lawyer gives her this box and she had this look on her face when she opened it but we didn't get to see what was inside. Most likely being withheld from us til the 6th installment, but has my curiousity peaked nonetheless. I also noticed after watching all the films again, that they never tell you what happens to Dr. Gordon from the 1st movie. They explained most of everyone from 2 to 5, but not him, I think that's strange. I wonder if he will be a huge piece of the puzzle they will unveil to us near the end. Also, watch all the films again on your spare time, listen closely to the dialogue that Hoffman says in 3 and 4, it's very interesting. That's the thing with his movie, it's well thought out. Jigsaw subtly states that each person is a vital piece of the puzzle which to me meant every film is a piece of a puzzle and in the end it will fit and make sense to us. I like that and I can't wait for the end. Whenever that may be!
