"It was cool to watch, but hard to LOVE this movie..."
(Spoilers)
I saw the other day that Michael Bay was bitching and complaining about how he hates Paramount because they did a horrible job marketing this movie...and I think I know why they didn't want to market it. I had HIGH hopes going in to see this movie. I didn't read any reviews or watch any clips that were on the internet...but now I think I'll read a few reviews before going to see another "summer hit". This summer has been very disappointing to me, other than "The Hangover" which was everything I hoped it would be and more, however along with "Terminator Salvation" I am kind of disappointed in this movie. (but not as much as Terminator...god that was bad)
Now I understand that Michael Bay didn't write the script, but he himself outlined the whole project, and he directed it(obviously). I am not going to lie, the story was VERY good in my opinion, but wasn't very well done. There was a lot of "awkward" scenes in this movie, and scenes that made no sense at all. For example: When the professor is in front of the class and drops the apple, then some hot girl picks it up and says 'thank you' after he whispers 'finish that for me'. Now what made this scene so weird and awkward was the intimacy of the shot. It was a straight ahead zoom in up close on his face shot, which...made it weird and awkward. Now I think that Michael Bay added the dumb crap that he did because he got away with some stuff in the original Transformers (which I very much so enjoyed). Like the mom threatening to beat the crap out of people if they hurt her dog. So they think 'hey that was funny, lets have her get high and then tell people to shut the fuck up...also some Transformers got a way with a little cussing like "what's cracking bitches" which was some what humorous, but calling people "pussys" isn't very children like. I don't care if Michael didn't want this movie to be a kids movie, it's obvious that kids are going to see this movie. In "The Dark Knight" the Joker didn't cuss a single time...and I believe that the filmmakers got their point across that he's a sick and twisted guy, but why no cussing? Maybe it's Christopher Nolan's style, or maybe it's because they know that kids are going to go see that movie and want to make it family friendly. There were just too many unnecessary characters, cussing, and dumb scenes. Also...the movie just sort of ENDED. I mean the end battle happened, then bam they're on a ship sailing off into the sunset and Prime is in some gay stance saying damn near the same thing he said in the last movie. Also...did no one see that big ass robot named Megatron get away? Kind of hard to miss in my opinion but hey.
On the positive side, the effects were amazing, the action was pretty awesome, and I did enjoy the ending don't get me wrong, it was cool. The military aspect was very very awesome and very realistic from what I understand. The people I know who are in the military loved that aspect of it. Like I said earlier, the story was very good and I loved the story. All they had to do was take away some of the strange and awkward scenes, and get rid of the pink and green autobots, and this movie would have been FANTASTIC. Those two autobots are the equivalent of Jar Jar Binks to me.
It was cool to watch but hard to LOVE this movie. Just...a slightly above average movie.
Oh and another thing that pisses me off about Michael Bay is that in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS MOVIES, the President or the person in high command NEVER makes a good decision. It's always the person that is in charge of the group or the team that is the "smart one" and there is always some ASSHOLE liaison to the president or person in highest command that tries to shut everything down...just thought I would add that.
Watch this animation...brings up some good points about the movie in my opinion (Except for the ending of the animation) And yes I understand the autobots have to "blend in" but it's a funny little video I found.
