Son of the Dragon (2007)

DVD

"David Carradine, who can believe this guy is 70 years old!!"

This film is from Director David Wu which in his previous America released film he did Bride of Chucky from 1998, which is a completely different film genre from Son of the dragon. Of course these two movies are completely different genres which are ok; because of the acting, the dialog is could be a little better and the action is tied well with the love story that's going on.

Son of the Dragon is based off the mini-series of the same name; the movie is a nearly 3 hours long. I was supremely impressed with 70-year old David Carradine (Death Race (voice of Frankenstein) in his role of Bird, he plays opposite John Reardon (7 Things to Do Before I'm 30 and the Painkiller Jane series from 2007) he plays D.B.

Desiree Ann Siahaan in her film debut stars has the delightful Princess Li Wei of who is the daughter of the Governor (Kay Tong Lim) whom has to choose a suitable mate for his daughter.

At first we are shown that D.B is nothing more than your adventurous thief who steals food to provide for the children. Which D.B, Bird, and the children are forced to live in the sewers. There's some great and funny action at the on set, kind of moves a little slow after that. Moving forward you learn that D.B has a plans of swindling the royal court of its jewels by winning the hand of the Governor's daughter Princess Li Wei.Unknown to Li Wei, D.B is already friends with Ting Ting (Theresa Lee) the friend of the Princess. Which share a small moment of fortunes which they use a ancient technique of fortune telling to try to find out what lays ahead for the Princess, inside the parchment is just a simple drawing of a red rose.

So to gain access to the Governor's home with the help of Bird, he posses has The Prince of The 7 Seas, who has now competes with the Prince of India (Nitin Ganatra, The Hunting Party 2007) and The Lord of the North Rupert Graves (Dominic from V for Vendetta). After receiving a red rose from DB during the introduction of the princes she soon talks her father into allowing her challenge all her suitors with vigorous tests to decide which one will take her hand. The Governor challenges them to find the Eye of the Dragon which completes his collection and also grants the owner the power to see the future.

So if you're up for it this movie is got adventure, action, "cliffhanger scenes", and not too much romance. I was entertained and was taken away by Desiree Ann Siahaan in her debut, and thought she did really well with her part. David Carradine had his usual fight scene which still makes some of the younger actors look silly.

I'm giving this movie 3 ½ stars, but I felt like the director, producers, and cast deserved some extra credit for at least carrying through on the project. This movie is not art, but, like painting your house, it actually took some time, effort, and discipline to get it made.

Also a great bonus feature including an exclusive and in-depth interview with David Carradine!

I remember Carradine from his old tv show! Glad he's still out there doing movies, and this one sounds like the perfect fit for him. Is this subtitled?
