As the wife puts it, this is the perfect holiday season date movie. This is a good film to go and have fun with someone special. Fred's not going to have you falling out of your seat ala Something About Mary, but this movie is not about slapstick comedy. This movie actually brings the warmth that you expect during the holiday season.

There's no pretending here to win any awards. Vince Vaughn does his usual shtick, but as much as I like him it did seem to get tiresome about half way through. In his defense he gets it right for the ending and gives you that warm, yeah Christmas is saved feeling. Paul Giamatti was the big surprise for me, he really sells himself as Santa Claus and I'd personally like to see him play old Saint Nick again. The rest of the actors seem to just be there with no memorable appearances.

Fred Claus will go down as one of those funny, kid friendly holiday classics you make a point to watch each year when it's on TV. Package this on TBS with Christmas Vacation back to back and my evenings booked.
