PUBLIC ENEMIES (2009)

"A historical event brought back to reality through a twister of its own that occur unexpectedly to bring back the trance times of the no.1 Public enemy."

John Dillinger, wether you liked it or not, he was real. a truly nightmarish charismatic way of mobster. But wether you liked it or not, public enemies brought one of the biggest mobster leader back to life and made you relive the great story again with a great passion and fully made you understand it even more by seeing the whole thing pop off in colored images in front of your eyes on the screen...

Jhon Dillinger had been the rat of the 1930's and Tom and Jerry was famous back then. the thing is, no matter how many times you watched Tom and Jerry you wanted to watch it again. And the truth is, no matter how many times you see Jhon escape his last seconds to live a 10000 more you'll see him falling down in the same gutter once again. And even though you see it so many times, you just keep on being surprised with how much you get excited everytime it happens. Its truly one thing I can never forget about this movie. The story is in the title "Public Enemies". It truly is amazing how many people hated John Dillinger and yet more and more wanted his head cut off, so, by saying that, I think everyone reading understood that the "Public enemy" in this movie is John Dillinger. Chased, Hurt, Shot, Slaped, imprisoned... Jhon always had his way of escaping, but will he espace the ending?? Well don't wait for an answer.

The story, and even though hackneyed by its own self, gives the movie a great spice of twisters. And that's the thing that makes you always want to see more and more and never get tired. The twists are largely hidden behind big boxes of smart talk and what you think should happen in movies like these. But even though the story is classically done more than 50 times as theatrical motions, this one still had more and pushed it even more and shined above many of the other, not to say all of them.

The funny part is, Johnny Depp was Playing Johnny Dillinger. At the start I thought the director was calling Depps first name. and then the actors started doing that. But time changed everything. once you saw the acting of Depp, the great mezmorizing master crafted acting of Depp, you forget about depp and start thinking Dillinger. It's so true that I was always recalling the looks from Sweeney Todd and from Pirates of the Caribbean. But also, I was always looking to depp as dillinger. He did many of his famous faces too. And that was something I always remember in Depp's movies. He did great even though this is the first time he released a mob movie. I think he is the most outstanding actor there is. And this truly shows it. No matter where he goes, no matter what he does, he is always shining the movie a little brighter with his scintillating acting.

Bale also was enjoyable throughout this movie. With 2 big heads like this, I felt like I was watching death note again. Bale, truly made the movie shine. But once you talked about Depp's performance, Bale stands under. If any Bale fans are reading this, I am sorry to tell you, but this is definitely Depps movie, even though Bale did a great job making himself the character he was supposed to be. Bale is Awesome.

Along with the greatly put together acting of both Bale and Depp comes many others who made this movie even better and better. The girlfriend who's name is not on my head did a great job preforming. I felt it. It came from her heart, the performance that is .

The directing was amazingly done by Michael Mann. Not the biggest director in history but he did a great job making the mood of the 30's there. The class of the 30's was there along with the phones and the cars. it was definitely something to look at. Some faults where made and maybe that's the only reason this movie might get a 4.5 not a 5 stars. but they are truly unseen ones.

Visuals were not eye popping that's for sure. if you were waiting for a visionary movie, you will be disappointed and you'll walk out of the theaters empty handed. the story might get you lost if you didn't look at it from the start and started whining for the visuals to start. This is much more of a pay attention movie. But still, the visuals did there jobs much enough. it was good enough for a 4 stars and it did a great job making the scenes real.

I once read in a review that the sounds in this were boring. Well its either he didn't sit through pop music class or he never knew there was something called 30's where the music is supposed to be calm and with no electric guitars . People this is no popcorn flick. this is public enemies.

And for once I sat through history class without being bored. in fact I sat through it being very happy of what had occurred in front of my eyes, learning probably even more than what I was supposed to. And entertainment was there. It was very much there and you could feel it.

Hence, this movie was a historical event brought back to reality through a twister of its own that occur unexpectedly to bring back the trance times of the no.1 Public enemy, John Dillinger.

It's like spending an afternoon -- a long one -- at a beautifully lit wax-museum display inspired by earlier gangster movies.

Great review man. I STILL NEED TO SEE THIS! Idk why I haven't yet.

And Yes, the Untouchables is good, but of all of Man's films its either Heat or Collateral for the win. Until I see this that is. :)

I agree with what you are saying, I never saaid the people loved him, in fact I said "It truly is amazing how many people hated John Dillinger and yet more and more wanted his head cut off."

but still I think they sorta showed that he had prostitutes through the movie, not too much because the love story between him and Billie Frechette was more dominante but still they sorta showed it.
Along with that, I sorta took this as a movie standing by itself, I haven't been in the US for so long and deff. didn't hear too much about Jhon dillinger. but I still wont change my rating, because Like I said, I took this as a stand alone movie. and it was amazing for me.
thanks for the compliment about the review.

It isn't necessarily a historical event, just a historic figure. They make him out to be a lovestuck robin hood... but the fact is... even though his girlfriend was Billie Frechette for a very very small period of time, the guy was still banging prostitutes. AND... he was NOT a Robin Hood type. He stole for money... period. They glorify the guy too much in the film when in fact he was a vicious thief and killer. They changed historic facts way too much.

The reason the FBI had a hard time catching him was not because the people loved him and he hid amongst them.... but because the technology was still in its early stages.

As far as the movie is concerned, I wish they had been a little closer to historical fact and shown us what he was really like. I would have liked to have seen his suaveness in bank robberies. Did you know he and his gang actually convinced the people and employees during a bank robbery that they were filming a bank robbery scene for a movie? The people thought they were all going to be in a movie and the gang simply drove away with all the money. True story. That would've been neat to see.

I thought it was ok but nothing close to a few other gangster movies I've seen. Especially THE UNTOUCHABLES. If you've never seen that movie, rent it. You'll enjoy it. It is a little bloody though... just to warn you.

As for the review... though I didn't enjoy the film as much as you did, it is still a good one. Nice job.
