"She's gone, baby, gone..."

Ben directs baby brother Casey in this compelling drama that hooks you and keeps you thoroughly woven in its web for the entirety of its runtime.
While Ben can't seem to strike a chord in front of the camera, BEHIND it - he seems quite at home and capable of visual storytelling that deeply enhance the narrative of this very strong script (which he also deserves props for co-writing).
Casey and Michelle Monaghan provide strong performances, backed exquisitely by the powerful Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris, two of my favorite thesps.
The one complaint I have about the film is that I can only take just SO much "southy" (the area of Boston that Affleck seems to lean on heavily, as he and Damon did with their story for Good Will Hunting). The environment gets to feel a bit overdone and, while it may feel comfortable and homey for the Affleck brothers, for the audience it gets almost to the point of overhanging the story. Maybe that's the tone they're looking for, though, so ... if that's the case... bravo.
At any rate, this film is well worth the time and, for all intents and purposes, is a brilliant effort.
