"I feel it is a little overrated but definatly a great entry into what looks to be a great trilogy."

Let me first inform you that i loved this movie and enjoyed all of the subtle nerdy references to possible tie-ins with S.H.I.E.L.D and The Avengers but to me Iron Man is quite overrated. People have been calling this Marvel's masterpiece but i felt a lot of the action while well choreographed was too short and too far spread out. First of all the acting is pure brilliance Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark sarcastic but in the same way Charlie Sheen is in Two and A Half Men an arrogant jackass whom you love because he's an arrogant jackass. Downey steals scenes with his perfect line delivery and excellent screen presence. I'm not a Gwenyth Paltrow fan but i found hr surprisingly likeable especially for a love interest she wasn't whiny or selfish like Mary Jane Watson, she's not a feministic type like Lois Lane (in Superman Returns) she's pretty much equally witty and equally confident about herself as Tony Stark is. These two actors add lovable banter throughout the entire film they have great chemistry. Jeff Bridges was corny as hell but in a likeable sort of way but his Obadiah Stane felt right out of a 90's cartoon line delivery and all he's pretty much just a more arrogant version of Julian McMahon's portrayl of Dr.Doom. Terrance Howard is likeable as well although his character isn't really developed the director highly forshadows his futre subtly and gives him a good personality and some witty lines to keep us interested in him. The middle eastern characters all fell like hilarious one dimensional characters who are pretty much just "the bad guys" and nothing more their actions seem to be motivated by nothing and the characters aren't identifiable or given any self justification for what they are doing they are as i said before just "the bad guys".

Plot wise the movie felt more character involved which for some reason i still can't understand didn't appeal to me. Most of the movie is Tony Stark building a suit and how his personality and mentality changes however i was hoping for more of a public Iron Man where he is saving civilians who all have various opinions of him but Iron Man and his adventures are never really exposed to the public until the end of the film so again most of the movie focuses on specifically Tony Stark but being as this is the first in a trilogy it's understandable. This isn't really a flaw or a fault if you wanted a story that pretty much shuts everyone out and only focuses on Stark tan you will be very pleased and i know many people who enjoyed that very aspect of the movie.

I loved the music in the film that same sort of amazing heavy metal/orchestral combo that made 300 so great. The scores pump you up and get you psyched for action plus they play Iron Man by Black Sabbath at the end which to me just was icing on the cake. The effects are excellent some compare to Transformers but i say it comes dangerously close some of the CG is more noticeable whereas Transformers pretty much looked real all the time still very impressive CG work though definatly worthy of an oscar nomiation for SFX. Jon favreau who i'll always remember form King Of Queens is great director and he definatly added his very unique action style particular scenes where the camera work and direction blew me away were the scenes where Iron Man s being chased by the airforce and the final battle at the end against the Iron Monger. Overall a great Marvel film the first after quite a few stinkers but i honestly still prefer the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises.

I thought they had great back and forth banter and i love how you could sense that they both liked each other but never really capitalized on it it's just a refreshing taste from the overly sobby Peter/MJ or borderline emotionless Clark/Lois thing in Spider-Man 3 and Superman Returns. Oh i loved the back story i just figured Iron Man would be out in the public more but instead he was never really found out until the end of the film but i did enjoy how they focused on him i just wanted some more depth for Rhodey and maybe those terrorist guys. Ayway thanks for sharing your opinion without being a dick it's a rare thing to find on the internet lol.

saying Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenyth Paltrow have great chemistry is plain rubbish... there scenes seemed forced and make me as an onlooker rather uncomfortable FOR them.. you could just see that things weren't clicking and they just had to make the best of it, which did not turn out that great.. Paltrow was a bad casting choice in my opinion.

And as for the backstory, it was brilliant, it gave you the taste of action that we were all craving while leaving us starving for more which will be up to the sequel to administer. The focus on Stark is obvious and must be done, just like it was done in Batman Begins.. the audience needs that background knowledge not only to help keep them informed but to help attach them to Tony Stark on an emotional level. We need to care about him.

And as for your enjoying the X-Men and Spiderman franchises more, all I can say to that is to each his own.. your personal preference will not negate the fact that where the sequels floundered for both of those franchises, I can only see Iron Man excelling.. and I'm sure the numbers will reflect the same outcome.
