"Oh good...another half-ass Christmas movie"
Alright, here we go again. Let's start with Vince Vaughn. Do I like him? Yes. Am I getting tired of him? Yes. How many times can the same jokes be funny? Apparently the studio releasing this film seems to think that we, as an audience, will NEVER tire of Mr. Vaughn's unique brand of "humor." Guess what? We can, and we will, and that time has come for THIS reviewer. Don't get me wrong, this flick does have a certain amount of appeal. If you really like holiday flicks, and you aren't looking for much in the way of depth and/or sincerity, then guess what, you have a new flick to fall in love with. The story here DOES have some merit, and I can see how this can and is relateable for those of us that 1) don't like our families very much, and 2) have multiple houses to visit each year. However, when compared to other films that one might want to watch during the holidays...this offering does little to inspire repeat viewings. The story slash message being conveyed in this flick, while being positive, doesn't do much to inspire a deep affection for the characters, or the overall experience. I found myself getting bored and not laughing nearly enough for a "Vince Vaughn Flick."
If you are simply looking for a way to waste some time this holiday season, a way to spend some time in a way that you can write off as "acceptable holiday entertainment," then this MIGHT be the film for you. If you are looking for a new great addition to your holiday film collection...well, I'm sorry folks, but THIS, isn't it.
