CAPOTE (2005)

"This film was both shocking and well put together. Philip Seymor Hoffman's portrayal of Truman Capote skyrocketed him to the top of my list among favorite actors. By far my favorite of his films. Excellent job."

This film is based on the Brutal murder of a Kansas farm family(Clutter's)by to ex-cons who were informed that the family kept money at the farm. The brutality of the crime made this story front page news. Famed author Truman Capote(Hoffman) along with long-time friend Harper Lee(Keener) set out to write an article that soon turns into a novel about the crime and the criminals behind it. But the murder is soon set aside as a friendship between Capote and one of the murderers Perry Smith(Collins)begins to bloom. The similarities in both their up-bringings surprises Capote as he tries to find out what happened that fatefull night in Kansas.

Capote stays in contact with Smith and Hitchcock(the other murderer)right up to their execution and finally manages to get Smith to talk. The 4 yrs it took Capote to write the book and the effect that Smith had over him once he revealed how he killed the entire family drive Capote to drink. This was the last book he ever finished and in the 80's, Capote died from problems related to alcoholism. It was such a good film, I definately recommend it, but don't watch it with children, some scenes are very violent and explicit.
