What? Wait but if he's alive maybe...That's strange...What are their powers? No way! These are just some of the comments/questions fans said/asked them selves after the first episode of season 2.Season 2 opened up with showing where the Heroes had ended up "Four Months Later" after the season one climax. The most confusing of all these situations is where the shows center piece Peter ended up (handcuffed inside a huge metal crate in Ireland with no memory of how he got there or who he is). Hiro as fans saw in the first season teleported through space and time to end up in Japan 1671 to meet his idol Takezo Kensei the great samurai who saved Japan from various threats. Nikki and Micah are living with out DL, Claire's starting at a new high school in CA, poor Ando's all alone, Mohinder is working for the company (to bring it down from the inside with Bennett's help), Matt finally became a detective, and 2 new Heroes are introduced Maya and Alejandro, who have a very strange power.
One of the shows great qualities is how everything is connected. Season 2 reveals just how connected the Heroes are. The infamous company was actually founded by an older generation of Heroes, mostly the main characters parents, and their past comes back to haunt them as one of their own starts to hunt down the founders one by one and kill them off. Every question you get from season 2 is answered mostly thanks to episode 8 "Four Months Ago" picking up right where season one ended and showing the details of how everyone got from point A to point B. On a personal note, as a fan I've never cared for Nikki too much, she's always messing things up, which is entertaining I suppose but she goes too far this season. And fans will argue she tried to redeem herself but I think you should watch for yourself and judge. Peter eventually gets his memory back but before he does he gets a glimpse of the future, and in that future 95% of the world's population is dead due to a virus. Peter is working with another Hero to go destroy the virus before it gets released. The character growth is well done this season and I think it shows mainly with Matt, Hiro, and Nathan "flying-man" Petrelli. Whether it's dealing with love, responsibility, purpose, or determination.
Once again on a slightly smaller scale the climax is about the fate of the world (not just most of NY). But I feel there are other smaller climaxes (I think there's a term for them) worth noting like the end result between Claire's family and the company, and Sylar getting his powers back which was a great scene to show right after they inform you Vol. 3 is entitled Villains.
So if you read my reviews (there's only like 3 at this point) you know I don't want to give anything away, I just want to get you interested enough to see it yourself and if you get the DVD set I think the only real disappointment is the "sneak peek at Vol. 3". It's really nothing special. It gets a huge fan like myself excited but doesn't show anything new worth noting. The alternate ending is interesting. It shows how the Heroes deal with the virus once its released and how'd they try to contain it. And if you watch the commentary for it; it's very interesting how the writers deal with it and which Heroes would actually come into play. Though season 2 can't compare to season one in most respects I feel I got a lot of story out of it considering how short it was. One last detail, if you're a big fan get the special edition at target, it comes with a sweet booklet full of Issac's paintings from this season, it's a nice collectable.
