BRIDE WARS (2009)

"You're like a tall, sexy smurf."

Alright, so I saw a trailer for this movie back in September, I think it was, and the moment that I watched/saw the Trailer, I knew that I HAD to see this movie. I can't explain why, but it was kind of like when I saw the trailer for "The House Bunny" and had to see that. Most of the time, I'm not a very big chick flick fan, but once in a while, one will pop out at me, and I'll have to see it (I.E. "The House Bunny" and "Legally Blonde" and "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde"). This one did just that, and so I've been waiting VERY impatiently for it to hit theaters so that I could see it. Well, it finally hit theaters here on Friday, and I FINALLY saw it yesterday. I must say that this movie was just as "The House Bunny" was after finally seeing it. It was just as I thought from looking at the trailer, a completely and totally AWESOME movie, that was great and hilarious. The jokes in this were subtle ones, but they were all great and hilarious. This movie was exactly what I hoped it would be, and that was a hilarious movie, with two of my favorite actresses. Definitely see this one if you want to have a good laugh. Totally glad that I decided to skip over "The Unborn," too. LOLZ! There were so many great parts in this movie, and this is going to be a tough review to write because I'll probably notice that I've spoiled something, and have to go back and redo it! lolz. This truly was a great and funny movie, and so far, for me, the funniest of the year. lolz. The year is still young, of course, but you know, I had to say it. This really was a great movie, and one that is most definitely worth the watch if you're in the mood for a good laugh! LOLZ!

Gary Winick directs this hilarious new movie that many will most likely love, though I dunno if they'll like it as much as I did. lolz! Winick is known for his directing of the movie "13 Going on 30," which many remember as a female version of "Big" starring Jennifer Garner. This movie was a great and hilarious ride to take, and this is mostly thanks to our director, Gary Winick. He calls everything very expertly, and his choices are reflected in this movie. There are a lot of different things that he does using angles and other such things, that make some of the things that these girls do to each other even funnier. I don't know why it seemed this way, or if that is what the director intended, but it REALLY worked out for the best in this film, and I feel that whoever ran the show, chose a great director to do this, and are lucky for having him sign on. (NOTICE: THIS MOVIE IS A REASON TO NOT BOYCOTT FOX YOU IDIOTS. Sorry, I really needed to get that off of my chest. lolz.). The writers of this movie are aplenty. They include Greg DePaul, who wrote the storyline, and helped to develop the screenplay. The other two screenplay writers are Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael. All three of these writers do a great job in writing a story, that may not be overall original, but has it's own originality to it. It's not like there's never been movies about best-friends-become-enemies, but the way that this one goes about doing the story, I find to be very original, as well as very funny and entertaining. The director and the writers all do a great job in putting this movie together.

This movie isn't a movie that's based on it's visuals at all. It's a realistic movie, which, when I talk about realistic movies, means that it's based on the ordinary everyday life things. It didn't need any explosions (Though that would have been funny as hell! lolz), and it didn't need any vibrant costumes, though it had some. It's visuals were simply the movie. However, SOME things did pop out at me, that I feel like mentioning. The first one is the fact that, in my opinion, Kate Hudson looks crazy-sexy in blue hair. lolz. It's a funny effect, I think, and it made that whole stretch of the movie even funnier. The second, would be that Anne Hathaway all orange-spray-tanned, was hilarious to watch, too. Those were two of the funniest parts of the movie, and despite what others may say of the movie, you do NOT, I repeat, do NOT, see everything in the trailer from the movie. There's a whole lot more going on. Anyway, the other thing, and this might be a little girlie to be mentioning, but the Wedding Dresses looked very good on both of them. I suppose there is a wide variety of subtle visuals throughout the movie, and they help it along. So, though this is not a movie that needs to have blatant and extravagant visuals, the visuals that it DOES have, the minor subtleties, do great, and really help the movie along.

The storyline of this movie is a great one. I touched on this a bit earlier, but it's not one that is totally and entirely original. I mean, we've had movies that are about two best friends, and a boy or something that they've always dreamed about, gets between them, and they start to war with each other, pulling pranks, and the likes, until vastly they turn from best friends into the world, to worst enemies in the world. lolz. However, in my opinion, the way that THIS movie went about doing that was different from the other movies like it, in which case this movie gains a certain bit of it's OWN originality. I can't remember a movie where two women get into a huge tiff over a date in a hotel for their wedding. Even IF that date was a popular month to be married in, and the hotel was a popular and nearly IMPOSSIBLE place to GET married in. lolz. So, while it's concept may not be that original, the way that the movie goes about things IS, and it made for a great storyline, which was probably what made this movie such a laugh riot. lolz. Two girls witness a wedding at a grand and sweeping hotel in June, and they know that their weddings HAVE TO happen at THIS hotel in THIS month. They become obsessed with Weddings, and as they grow older, their friendship bond tightens. Soon they get engaged, and they set about making plans for their weddings, at THIS hotel, and during THIS special month. However, they come to find that their dates had been booked on the same day, making it impossible for each other to be each other's maids-of-honor. Now they begin to fight with each other over who moves their date. This really was a great storyline to follow along with, and all of the different things that they do to each other along the way only make things even funnier to watch. It starts to capture your attention right from the beginning, where it captures it straight away, and from their on you are absolutely hooked to the screen in this movie, and cannot stop laughing. At least, that was the reaction that I got from myself out of watching it. It really was a great and hilarious film to watch. Definitely give it a try. The storyline is done incredibly well. lolz!

Kate Hudson, known for MANY roles, most recently from "Fool's Gold" and "My Best Friend's Girl," and one of my all time favorite actresses, stars in this movie as Liv. Liv has always been the bossy and know-it-all sort of girl. When she was little, her and her best friend Emma were at the Plaza hotel where they witnessed a grand wedding, and there was born Liv's obsession with weddings. Ever since then, Liv and Emma played fake-weddings non-stop, and Liv was always the bride, no matter what. Now that Liv has grown up, and made a killing, so to speak, nothing has changed. She is still best friends with Emma, and she is still a bossy, know-it-all. Liv is also rich, the result of working as an attorney at a prominent New York law firm. She gets the best of things, and that is that. One day, while going through her closet with Emma, she discovers a Tiffany's box up on the top shelf, and she knows instantly that it is an engagement ring. She has to be tackled by Emma before she realizes that she needs to be surprised by the ring's appearance when the question is popped. However, it goes on for a couple of weeks, and still she has not gotten the question popped to her. She marches to her boyfriend's office, demanding to know if he wants to marry her, only to find out that he was going to ask her that night. Now that she is engaged, and Emma is, too, they go to meet the woman that they've ALWAYS wanted to meet, Marion St. Clair. Without even consulting her fiance, Nate (Played by Steve Howey, who was in "DOA: Dead or Alive," as well). They get their dates booked, and Liv sets hers for the sixth, since that's when her Mother's anniversary was. However, one day, as they're beginning their preparations for the wedding, they get called back to Marion's office. They find that their dates have been booked on the same day by mistake. After trying to get the other lady to switch dates, they decide to wait, while they think it out, and see if either will choose a different venue. When neither budges, and Liv starts to move ahead, Emma finds out and does the same. Now they don't speak to each other, and pull all sorts of nasty pranks on each other. Liv, for one of her pranks, switches spray tan bottles, and turns Emma orange, however, in revenge, as Liv gets her hair done, Emma switches dyes, and it gets colored blue. They go full out now, and neither will stop, until the other admits defeat, no matter how much it hurts them inside to be arguing with one another. Kate Hudson, as I've said already, is one of my favorite actresses, and in this movie she really shines, getting the bossy, know-it-all sort of character down very well, and playing out all of her character's emotions, feelings, and overall determination to bring Emma's wedding down, as she states in the movie. She does a great job in this movie, that's a fact. I also feel the need to say that during this movie, she looked SO much like her mother (Goldie Hawn, if you didn't know), it was just amazing. I swear it was Goldie in some of these scenes. LOLZ! Also, Kate Hudson's on-screen chemistry as best-friend-turned-enemy with Anne Hathaway's character is amazing, and you'd think they'd been best friends since they were little kids in real life, as well. You do kind of feel sorry for her, though, since she lost her parents, and now her best friend, but then again, she's being a mega butt head about it, too. lolz! I dunno how much you can relate to this situation, though. lolz! Kate Hudson was DEFINITELY a great casting choice for this role.

Starring in this movie as the opponent bride, and the other main character of the movie, Emma, is Anne Hathaway, most notably from the "Princess Diaries" movies and "The Devil Wears Prada" (Which I still need to see), who is another of my favorite actresses. Emma has had the dream of having a huge wedding, in June, at the Plaza, and she has had this dream ever since she and her best friend, Liv, saw a huge and grand wedding at the Plaza Hotel in June. As they grew up, they constantly played fake-weddings, and though Liv always got to be the bride, Emma was always happy to play the groom, even if it was a little strange. Now that Emma is all grown up, she's not as successful as her best friend Liv, but that doesn't bother her because she is happy with her life the way it is. She is a school teacher, and one for the Junior High (Probably the worst era of children to ever have to teach! LOLZ!), and her only problem there is another teacher, by the name of Deb, who constantly shoves her teacher duties on to Emma. As Emma is helping Liv clean her closet, they discover Liv's ring, and Emma has to practically tackle Liv to stop her from opening it. The days drag by, though, and Liv isn't asked. One night, though, as she and her boyfriend, Fletcher (Played by Chris Pratt, also seen in the movie "Wanted," as Barry), are eating Chinese food, he gives her her fortune cookie. When she opens it, she finds a wedding ring, and he proposes to her. When she calls to tell Liv, Liv is ecstatic. However, the next day as they are jogging like they always do every day, Liv seems off, and that's when Emma finds out that she is planning to FORCE him to propose. She tries, and fails, to stop Liv from doing, and soon, they're both engaged, and going to go see the woman they've always wanted to meet, Marion St. Claire. They get they're openings and pick their dates, and as they're dress shopping, they are called in to Marion's office, and find out that their wedding days were booked on the same date. They agree, however, to wait and think it out, and decide which one should get married at the Plaza, and which one should pick a different venue. When Emma finds out, however, that Liv was already picking out her Save-The-Dates, Emma flips, and sends out her Save-The-Dates in an email. Now these two best friends have stopped speaking to each other, and are practically at war. Emma is probably hurt the most out of this, since she has always been the people-pleasing kind of person, and always wants to make everyone happy, but she doesn't let that get in her way. As Liv threatens her Wedding, Emma goes into over drive. One day, about a week away from the wedding, Emma goes to get a spray tan, and unbeknownst to her, Liv switches the tanning spray bottles, and Emma is tanned orange (Like a traffic cone as Deb so blatantly puts it). She is INCREDIBLY pissed (As any bride-to-be would be if this were to happen), and in retaliation, she sneaks into where Liv is getting her hair done and dyed for the wedding, and switches the hair colorings, changing Liv's hair blue. Now they both go into MAXIMUM OVER DRIVE, and are literally turning it into a World War III. Emma retaliates back, but like Liv, she is hurting inside, and misses her friend. Anne Hathaway, as I pointed out, is another one of my favorite actresses, and in this movie she really shines. She gets this characters generally nice, and people-pleasing attitude down VERY well, and really goes along with it. She makes the character what it is, and portrays her rage, emotion, worry, and all of her other feelings very well, making it a REALLY great performance that is DEFINITELY worth the watch. Her chemistry as best-friends-turned-enemies, with Kate Hudson's character in this movie is absolutely amazing, and you'd think they'd been best friends forever in real life, too. Hathaway REALLY shines, as I said, in this movie, and goes with the character fully, making it a funny movie to watch. You can feel for her character, the same way that you feel for Kate Hudson's character because she is doing all of this, but deep down she is hurting because she lost her best friend, as well as hurting because her best friend is doing all of this to her. I don't know if you can exactly relate to this role, either. LOLZ! Anne Hathaway was DEFINITELY another great casting choice for this movie.

Candice Burgen, who starred in one of my all time favorite movies as Kathy Morningside in "Miss Congeniality," and is one of those actresses who I haven't seen a lot of, but is still a favorite from what I have seen her in, stars in this movie as Marion St. Claire. Marion St. Claire is a wedding planner, and the most sought after wedding planner in New York, at that. She is not cheap, and she is very strict, running her business efficiently, and making sure that all of her customers are having the wedding of their dreams. For anyone else it would have been impossible, but Marion St. Claire managed to book three different dates at the Plaza in June. Marion is also the one who is narrating the story, and explaining things about weddings as she sees it. She's very funny in this movie to me because she is so famous, and yet she is so strict with everyone. When her assistant mixes up the dates for the wedding, and books these two woman's weddings at the same time on the same day, she fires her assistant, and threatens her to not use her as a reference. However much she would like to, Marion cannot give Liv and Emma the woman's name and/or address who got the second date. However, when they DO find her, and fail to get her to switch dates, Marion begins to see these two woman's relationship falling apart, and they are no longer best friends, or talking to her. She doesn't like it, but as someone who does not know them at all, she doesn't really do anything to help them through it. What Marion is most concerned with, is getting these weddings, and getting them done right. She informs them both, though, that they need to find their Maids-of-Honor, since they aren't going to be each other's maids-of-honor anymore, and they cannot get their friends because their friends don't want to take sides. They find ones, though, and even though Liv's is a man, she doesn't say anything, and continues planning. Candice Burgen does a great job in this movie, and was definitely a wonderful addition to it. She gets the strictness of the character of Marion St. Clair down really well, and really flows with the character nicely. She's funny in this role, too because she scares a lot of the other characters, and that, to me anyway, is what made her character even funnier. She executes all of this characters emotions, feelings, and worries, as well as her determination to get this job done, and get it done right, down VERY well, and, as I said already, REALLY makes this character what it is, unlike any other actress could. She even makes it a character that you can sort of feel for, since she's a third party, and doesn't know what to do about the warring friends, but has to work for both of them, as well as working around what they each do to each other. I don't know how much you could relate to this character, either, if at all, really. LOLZ! Candice Burgen was DEFINITELY yet another great casting choice for this movie.

ANOTHER of my favorite actresses, one who, like Candice Burgen, I haven't seen too much of in movies, but what I have seen I like, is Kristen Johnston, who has been in movies like "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," where she played Ivana Humpalot, as well as in another movie I liked called "Music and Lyrics," where she played Rhonda, stars in this movie as Emma's teacher-"friend," Deb. Deb is one of those women who is obsessed with herself, and though she does very little, if nothing at all, she THINKS that she does everything. She's been divorced quite a few times, as Emma says at some point in the movie, and she's rather obnoxious, but she makes for one of my favorite characters in this movie. She constantly pushes off her different Teacher-Chores on to Emma, and thinks that she ALWAYS does favors for Emma. It's kind of funny really. Emma doesn't like her that much, but (And this is UNKNOWN to Deb, so SHH! LOLZ!) when Marion St. Claire tells Emma that she HAS to find a Maid-of-Honor, and NONE of her friends are will to take sides, since they are also friends with Liv, Emma asks Deb to be her Maid-Of-Honor, Deb makes her promise to do more of her work around the school, but eventually does it. What is funny about this character, is that Deb is kind of like Emma's coach, and tells her how to get back at Liv, even coming up with the plan to ruin Liv's wedding dress. Deb is great in this movie, and though Emma doesn't really like her, she does it all very well, thinking that they are best friends. She's REALLY scared of Marion St. Claire, though. Well, not exactly REALLY, but as Marion and Emma are discussing things, she says something, to witch Marion, quite sarcastically responds, and then walks away to do something else, Deb walks over to Emma and tells her that Marion is kind of scary. LOLZ! Anyway, she acts as a great War Adviser, if anything. lolz! Kristen Johnston does a great job in this role. From what I've seen, she USUALLY plays these obnoxious-type characters, and she does it VERY well. Especially so in this one, where she gets down all of Deb's quirks, and her feelings, emotions, any worries that she might have, and most DEFINITELY, her obnoxiousness. She's not a character that you feel for, or relate to, since she's kind of annoying, and as I said, really obnoxious, so you tend to get annoyed with her, which, I guess, is kind of a way to feel for her! LOLZ! I don't know how well you'd relate to this character, though. LOLZ! Kristen Johnston was DEFINITELY ANOTHER great casting choice for this movie.

Michael Arden, an actor who I am not very familiar with, but has been in episodes of "Numb3rs" and "Grey's Anatomy," stars in this movie as Liv's assistant, who gets a strange promotion, and his name is Kevin. Kevin, towards the beginning of the movie, isn't really that big of a character, just Liv's assistant/secretary/informant sort of deal, but when Marion St. Claire tells Liv and Emma that they both need to get new Maids-of-Honor, since they had their falling out, and aren't going to be each OTHER'S maids-of-honor anymore. She tells Kevin that he is getting promoted to a strange title that she calls "Mr.-Of-Honor," (I was nearly dying from laughing so hard at this point. XD!) and so he agrees, not really knowing what she means. He helps her pick out everything, since he's kind of feministic in this movie, and acts as a mediator. He also serves nearly the same purpose as Deb does for Emma, and that is as a sort of, "War Adviser," and he tells Liv what different things she should do, and she does them, thinking he's brilliant. He is very mischievous though, and when Liv tells him to do something near the end, he blatantly ignores it. Like I said, he's not exactly the biggest character in this movie, but I thought it to be prudent to mention him, since he is a big part of it, in a small way. LOLZ! That doesn't really make any sense, does it? Well, I'm trying. Anyway, he's Liv's faithfull assistant and "Mr.-Of-Honor," and does what she asks, while at the same time scheming to help her bring ruin to her friend Emma, which for some strange reason, he gets a kick out of. Twisted man! Twisted man! LMFAO! Anyway, Michael Arden does a great job as this character. I don't know if he's naturally feministic, but he does a good job at playing this if he is. He really gets this character's mischievous and devious mindset down, as well as his feelings, emotions, worries, and also his devotion to Liv VERY WELL, and really runs with the character, making it his own, and making it a scathing one that you'll probably want to string up on a clothesline and throw little pebbles at. He isn't a character that you can feel for either, since he's so..... devious, I guess. lolz. He's kind of annoying, actually, but he's one of those characters that are SO annoying that they're funny. lolz! Michael Arden was DEFINITELY YET ANOTHER great casting choice for this movie. Seems like there is a pattern when it comes to this, doesn't there? LOLZ! That's not a bad thing, though. In fact, it's a really GOOD thing.

All in all this was a great and hilarious movie, that I add to my favorites list. Don't judge this book by it's cover, like some might, because you'll be missing out on a really good and hilarious movie, that'll most DEFINITELY make you laugh. The directing for this movie is done by someone who definitely knows what they're doing, and how to do it. The way the execute everything going on in this movie is great, and I like all of the little quirky angles that the movie had for different scenes in this movie. DEFINITELY a great Director choice. The writers of this movie also do a great job, taking an unoriginal concept, and spinning it into an original way of showing that concept. They did a great job of spinning a good story, too. The visuals of this movie might not have been a big thing for this movie, but the different visuals that it DID have were fantastic, and made the movie all the more funnier. The storyline of this movie, as I touched down on a bit earlier, was done great, and really keeps you interested in the movie, even if it IS a concept you've seen before, and it is also a movie that'll keep you laughing throughout pretty much the ENTIRE movie, which is great since this was intended to be a comedy movie. LOLZ! The acting ties everything in this movie together, and makes the already great things, even greater. All of the actors and actresses in this movie deliver performances that are completely convincing, believable, and realistic, and the performances that they deliver are as characters that you can feel for, and maybe even RELATE to, in variously different cases. This REALLY was a great movie, and one that you'll definitely get a lot of laughs out of. So don't say, "Oh that doesn't look good at all," just go see it. You'll change your mind, I'm almost positive of it! Take my word for it, you'll probably REALLY enjoy it like I did! LOLZ!!!!!

Thanks everyone. Sorry to disappoint Raoul. lolz. Something about the trailer for "The Unborn" told me that it was going to have top notch visuals, a good concept, but overall it would be executed poorly. Apparently, that's what this movie, in a nutshell, was.

Something about the trailer for THIS movie told me that THIS would be one hell of a funny movie, and one that was worth the ticket price. I even payed extra to see it in the UltraScreen. It was definitely worth it.

Exactly! Especially FOX, I mean, them,WB, and Universal distribute about three fourths of the movies coming out as it is. You can't boycott something that delivers so many movies. Plus, if you do that, you'll miss "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and that is unacceptable. LOLZ!

Typically I do not watch a lot of 'chick flicks' because I think most of them are just plain silly. But I will check this one out once it comes out on DVD. Thanks for the thorough review.

Yeah, I saw that. I wasn't planning on boycotting, Fox, anyways, and I'm a huge Watchmen fan. It's just so stupid to say you're going to boycott a movie studio

Thanks both of you, and thanks for the "Lolz" count VIS, that's an all time low. XD!

Did you get my "FOX BOYCOTTING" addition, in it? XD!

I'm GLAD I saw this over "The Unborn, Screenwriter, from what I hear, that movie was terrible, aside from some really cool visual effects.

Admittedly, I didn't read all of this because I'm too interested in the movie. I hear it's strictly a chick flick. However, I did skim it just to get the gist of the whole thing, and counted 23 lolz, give or take ;)

It looks like a rental because I did chuckle a couple times during trailers but not enough to go see it and risk having teenage girls shrieking in my ear lol
