STAR TREK (2009)

"A very good "Trek" film, and an excellent movie in and of itself."

I'll keep this short and sweet so I won't bore anyone.

I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of Star Trek today, and it was better than I could have imagined. I'm happy to report that all my skepticism over the last two years has been shattered.

The cast is wonderful. Pine is a pitch perfect Kirk. Pegg is hilarious as Scotty. Saldana makes a great and super sexy Uhura. Yelchin and Cho are surprisingly outstanding as Chekov and Sulu. Quinto holds his own as Spock with Leonard Nimoy (literally). And I was never a fan of Dr. McCoy until played by Karl Urban.

Eick Bana made a fine villian but nowhere near as awesomely evil as Ricardo Montalban or even Christopher Plummer.

Whether you like the new designs of everything is really matter to individual taste. Personaly some things I really liked and some I didn't. But the action is undeniably kick-ass, and what makes it so great is that it has a solid and fascinating story to go along with it. Even though there were a couple scenes that were pretty pointless and didn't drive the story or any character development, but oh well.

SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW MAJOR PLOT POINTS!!!

Ok, the one thing that kinda bothered me was the whole "alternate timeline/reality" thing. Because of Spock's time-traveling the entire Trek timeline is different and that gives the filmmakers the freedom to do what they need to tell the story and lets them change whatever they want. Which basically means that everything in the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and the 10 Trek Films doesn't matter at all. And that really bothered me.

OK YOU CAN START READING AGAIN!!!

So anyway, Star Trek was awesome and I highly recommend it! I just hope the movie is at least successful enough to warrant a new Star Trek TV series because Trek is truly at it's best when on TV.
