Ah the long awaited return of Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Will Turner!!!!! This was a truly amazing film, as well it should have been, after waiting so long for it to come out!!!!! This one I was actually able to see in the theaters, and what a remarkable experience that was!!!!!
Johnny Depp returns to his role as Jack Sparrow, and once again he brings his own touch back to the character, this time a little more familiar and easy for him, as he cracks more jokes and does so much more funny things in this film, which I believe was the funniest of the three.
Keira Knightly also returns to her role as Elizabeth Swann, who in this one must ban with the pirates to save herself and her beloved Will Turner, who at the beginning were set to be married, but were interupted only to find out that they were sentenced to be hung by the neck for aiding Jack Sparrow in his escape at the end of the first movie. She must help them find a key to unlock a chest whos contents are known only to Jack Sparrow. Her transformation from prissy princess into a pirate in this one is small, but it's still noticable.
Orlando Bloom also reprises his role as Will Turner who also must band with the pirates to save himself and Elizabeth Swann, to find the chest. In this one he is reunited with his father, who he finds out is still alive, if alive is what you would call it, and aboard Davy Jones' ship The Flying Dutchman.
Davy Jones, the nautical and evil villain of this movie, is played by Bill Nighy, and he is played perfectly, since Bill Nighy is used to playing bad guys, like in Hot Fuzz and the Underworld Movies.
The visuals in this movie, like in the first, are truly stunning, if not even more stunning than they were in the first one. The ship, The Flying Dutchman, for one, can submerge itself under water, and then resurface, and it looks truly incredible to watch. Also, Davy Jones, who has an Octopus for a head, and other sealike features, looks incredible thanks to excellent CGI technology, which was also used on the crew of The Flying Dutchman, who also have many sealike amenities, like one that is a cross between a Hammerhead Shark and a Man, or another one who has a conch shell and crab thing for a head. It's incredible.
The story in this one, like in the first one is incredibly gripping and fast paced, and very imaginative, and original, which is something that we look forward to in our society these days. Even at the end there is a surprise ending, a VERY surprising ending for many characters.
Gore Verbinski also directs this movie, doing incredible, and though he may not have a big name, he delivers us an excellent sequel to an incredible, and gripping franchise, and another must own DVD!!!!!
