"A time-traveling movie, that isn't cheesy... For once."
When I first saw the trailers for this, I was so excited. For some weird, and unexplainable, I'm really getting into romances. I think I might know why, but do you really want to hear about my personal life? NO. You are here to read a review for the movie. Which is good, by the way, in case you hadn't noticed my 4.5 score up there. So, yea, great movie. And perfect time for it to come out! Right when I for some reason get into romances.
Well, as far as story goes, I thought I knew it completely. But I didn't. Do not be fooled by it's false title, or advertising. I mean, duh, it's about a dude who time travels, but really, "The Time Traveler's Wife" is a bad title for this movie. Doesn't it make you think it'll be about 99% Rachael McAdam's journey through a tough time of her loving a man who keeps on disappearing? Yea, it does. But it's not. Of course, she's in it, but they focus more on the Time Traveler himself, a lot more than his wife. But anyway, the story is a guy who can time travel, and he sees his wife, and stuff. So they get married, and yea, duh, the title has the word "wife" in it. HOWEVER. This isn't the complete story. I thought it'd be an hour and 45 minutes of that. But it's not. And sorry, but I'm not telling you what else there is, because it's pretty unexpected, for me at least it was.
Director is Robert Schwentke, and I hope I spelt that right. But his name seems familiar, but I can't put a movie to it, so some help, please! But I really liked him, even if he's the reason why it lost the rating of 5. Yea, I almost gave this 5. but you know how most to all romance films have some powerful music that fit just perfectly in a scene? Not this one. It more relied on back round music, more than the kind of music that famous singers sing, than are love songs. And while I was hoping to hear some nice, inspirational music, I still loved his directing, even if he missed out on making scenes better, and more tearful than they already where. I liked him a lot, because he didn't make this type of storyline cheesy at all in the least, like my title states,
As far as acting... Well, I never really thought of Eric Bana one way or another. But after this, I have a whole new respect for him. He was extremely convincing, and had excellent chemistry with Rachel McAdams. Speaking of her, I love her. Yes, mainly due to the fact that she's just so gorgeous, you feel bad for looking at her. But she's also an amazing actress. She can do all sorts of different roles, too. As far as I'm concerned, she's underrated.
For visuals, you got a whole bunch. Let's start with the pretty scenery. Very pretty forest, and they live in such a beautiful house. Then you have when he Time Travels. It looks so real. When he disappears, it looks very realistic, if such a thing could happen, of course. Then you have the 2 lead actors. Now, I'd assume Eric Bana is some sort of a hottie, because the dumb, immature girls were giggling like little annoying bitches in the back of me when they show his butt. So yea, there ya go, ladies... I guess... ??? But anyhow, to some straight stuff, Rachael McAdams isn't HOT. HOT is what I like to use for those girls that are at like stripper bars, or something, like that. Something HOT. Now for the category Rachael is in, I like to use the term "pretty" ... Although that's an understatement. She's amazing. And yes, I did rather enjoy that brief second of Rachel's butt. However, I kept it to myself, and didn't giggle like a moron in the theater.
Anyway, this movie is just great. Maybe not all of the male audience will enjoy it, but it's not as cheesy as The Notebook. And I said I like romances? Even that was going a little too far, but I still liked it. This one is just perfect...
