"Great acting, Meandering Story."
|
Paul Thomas Anderson, in his newest film There Will be Blood, focuses on the world of Oil speculation and how it corrupts people.
In terms of a review, the strongest aspect of the film is the acting. Daniel Day Lewis provides great intensity and power to his role as Daniel Plainview while Paul Dano has a very fine performance as the brothers Paul and Eli Sunday.
While the acting is great, alas, the film has some major flaws that prevent it from being perfect. The plot is by far the biggest problem, the plot is very LONG and sometimes meandering. Anderson puts in a lot of subplots and those end up creating a labryinthine plot that will certainly tire out the best people. Also, there are scenes that take too long and that can easily be cut.
Finally, the soundtrack to the film, done by the guitarist for radiohead, is brilliant.
Thus, the film was good, but not great.
