"Glad I saw it in the theater! Best romance this year."

I am probably one of the few women in the world who doesn't choose to see a romantic film or as some call them, a chic flick, in a theater. I usually reserve theater going to action/adventure and big blockbuster films but I'm really glad that I saw this one.

Based on the novel of the same name, this film tells the story of a young woman who loses her husband, whom she loves very much, and the plan that he has for her to find herself without him. The casting for this film is exceptional. Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Harry Connick Jr., Lisa Kudrow, Gina Gershon, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Kathy Bates together make the movie. They work off of each other well and bring so much depth to the film.

The acting and story are terrific but I thought that the director, Richard Lagravenese, could have had better visuals. Part of the film takes place in Ireland and, although there are some good shots, I think that he could of added some more to make the audience really believe that they shot these parts of the film in Ireland. The film started out right from the start but the opening scene ends with the credits showing. Although this is an interesting way to open, it kind of threw me off when the next scene after the opening credits was a funeral. I knew that the husband would die but it made me feel a little lost and think that I lost some important info about the couple. The director does make up for this throughout the film but it still was a hard opener.

I'm so glad that I saw this film in the theater. Of course seeing Gerard Butler up close and large was great but the best was to see a romantic film that made me feel good without making me feel weird.
