"When somebody asks me a question, I tell them the answer."
This is another movie that I hadn't read any reviews on,so I really didn't have any Idea what this movie was going to be like.After seeing it I can say I was glad I rented it.The movie is about Jamal (Dev Patel), an eighteen year old from Mumbai,who is just one question away from winning 20 million rupees on India's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. After growing up in the slums of Mumbai, the show's host finds it unbelievable that he has come so far and seeks the police to question the boy he believes is cheating.
Jamal is questioned (otherwise known as tortured) by the police. He states that he is not a cheat, nor is he a genius, and that he just knew the answers. After many attempts at coercing Jamal into revealing he is a cheat, they begin to think he may just be telling the truth .
The police ask him about each question he was asked on the show .And it is by chance and maybe a little luck that he know all the answers through his lifes experiences.
Through flashbacks we see every question Jamal has answered on the show. We see how he knew of ancient gods, American dignitaries, local pop stars and who was responsible for inventing the revolver.
We are also see how his brother Salim (Madhur Maittal) has chosen a life very different to that of Jamal and Latika (Freida Pinto), a girl he first meet in the slums, before losing her in a sadistic orphanage. But Jamal is determined to reunite with Latika and in the end he not only wins the money he get the girl.
