"It Was Not The Best, But It Was Still Pretty Good."
"Public Enemies," based from a book by Bryan Burrough, tells the true story about the bank robber John Dillinger and his remaining prison buddies who are on the run from the FBI, and they are marked as public enemies as they go on their adventures during the 1930s.
STORY: This movie had a good storyline compared to the story but it has some flaws. It was kind of, maybe, a little TOO dramatic in some parts of the movie, and I was a little bored with that. But other than that, the story was still good.
ACTING: Johnny Depp, as most of you all know, did his brilliant performance yet as the classic John Dillinger. From "Pirates of the Caribbean" to "Sweeney Todd," from funny pirate to demon barber, we finally get to see Depp as a shooting gangster in this movie! Let's shoot!
Christian Bale, one of my favorite actors, was great as FBI agent Melvin Purvis who was sent to find and catch John Dillinger and his remaining public enemies. "American Psycho," "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," "Terminator Salvation," and now this movie! Man! Bale sure knows how to act with such talent!
Marion Cotillard, whom I've never heard of, plays Billie Frechette, a coat check girlfriend to John Dillinger. She sure was smoking and I was impressed with her performance in this movie. She reminded me of Rachel Weisz too, by the way. Her English looks made her look a lot like Weisz, except she's French, and I think (I can't remember) she also had a normal accent in this movie.
Billy Crudup, from "Watchmen," plays FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Unfortunately, he was the one who sends Melvin Purvis out to find the gangsters. Crudup was a little overweight in this movie than he was in "Watchmen." I didn't recognize him at first until I saw his name in the credits. I was a little bummed to see him overweight in this movie, but he still did a good job playing his role in the film. From a CG naked blue guy to an FBI director, who will Crudup go as next?
DIRECTING: Michael Mann, one of the best directors out there, was perfect to direct an intense thriller like this! He's directed other films such as "Last of the Mohicans," "Heat," "The Insider," "Ali," and "Collateral." I've only seen "Collateral" and "Last of the Mohicans," but I've never seen any of the others. I'm planning to, though!
VISUALS: The visuals were good, but there was not much blood as I thought it would be. It's just more gun shooting and less blood, that's it! A little boring, but the visuals were still good.
OVERALL: This movie really is enjoyable to watch and I'm going to buy it when it comes out on DVD. Although to some people, this movie is not worth watching the second time around because of the disappointing ending, or it may not be worth watching at ALL to some others! But still, in my opinion, "Public Enemies" really is worth watching...MAYBE.
