""He's not my father.""
A violent, and depressing film that centers around 2 separate story-lines that occur in the same woodland location in Spain.
The first story-line is about a pregnant mother and daughter living with a group of Spanish Fascists that are battling a group of rebels in the woods, with some people that are living with the fascists secretly assisting the rebels. This story-line is where all the violence and depressing aspects come out that consume the film's overall tone.
The second story-line has the young daughter embarking on a bizarre quest to complete 3 random tasks assigned by a mysterious fawn that has no relevance to the other storyline until the climax's final moment. Though this story-line is less depressing, more intriguing, magical, and the level of awkwardness keeps the viewer intrigued.
The visuals and special effects are stunning! And beyond anything I've ever seen when measured in the uniqueness of the design of the fantasy world, and the beings within.
However, the story lacks with the irrelevance of the two story-lines and how depressing the overall tone of the movie is, thus making it a film that I wouldn't really want to watch several times over. But definitely wouldn't want to miss!
Great directing and acting! A film that's full of strange twists that you'll be intrigued with until the final scene. Not to be missed!
