BE KIND REWIND (2008)

"Mos Def and Jack Black are Outstanding."

The film takes place in a quiet neighborhood of Passaic, New Jersey at a VHS rental store owned by the elder Mr. Fletcher (Glover). When Mr. Fletcher leaves town to stop his store from being torn down, he leaves his only employee Mike (Mos Def) in charge to run the store, warning him "Keep Jerry (Jack Black) Out". When Jerry becomes magnetized while trying to disable a power surge, he unknowingly erases all of the videos at Be Kind Rewind. When customers complain to the unaware Mike he automatically assumes it is Jerry, in which he is right.

In an attempt to recover all the tapes that were erased, Mike and Jerry act as directors, producers, and the actors for big budget films such as "Ghostbusters" and "Robocop", only their versions last a mere twenty minutes. When the gullable customers realize it is fake and that Jerry and Mike are the ones creating them, they begin to become stars of the neighborhood.

The film overall was great. I believe it was fine the way it was, the comedy was, at times, repetitive. I couldn't think of any other actors that could have portrayed Jerry and Mike. Jack Black's comedy was more mature than some other films like "School of Rock" and "Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny". Mos Def showed a different side, being this film is a comedy, different from his "16 Blocks" and "The Italian Job" roles.

This is a film worth watching if you are a fan of films, and if you are interested in an amateur remaking timeless classics. Other films that were "remade" were "Rush Hour 2", "2001: A Space Odyssey", and "Driving Miss Daisy". In my opinion this film should have been nominated for an Academy Award, or an Oscar for being an original comedy. Watch it.
