PUBLIC ENEMIES (2009)

"A failure on so many levels."

Public Enemies is a terrible movie, it failed on every level.

I expected a lot more from Michael Mann. He is one of my favorite directors. He has done so many good to great films from Collateral, Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans to Heat.

The script/writing for this film was terrible. The way writers put the film together was all wrong.

The pace of the film will put you to sleep. The was no drama, because you just won't care about anyone in this film. The action was pathetically done with grainy film to I guess make it feel more realistic.

The music...well there virtually was none and when there was some it wasn't very good.

The acting had to be my biggest disappointment. Everyone seemed like robots no emotion, almost like they were sleep walking through the film. Christian Bale trying to destroy his reputation as a good actor this year. First Terminator and now this film. Then there was Johnny Depp who I think is a great actor, he was the only thing truly worth while in the Pirate of the Caribbean movies. But in this movie he just looked bored uninterested.

Then there was the running time of the film at about 2 1/2 hours long seemed like a eternity. I kept hoping the film would just end. And I know some of you will fall asleep watching this movie. I know I saw people asleep in the showing I went to and many were laughing at how bad it was.

Overall this has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a theater in a long time. If you want to learn about John Dillinger watch the History Channel show about him and the other guys from that time or read a book I guarantee you'll be more entertained that way.

I just can't believe I couldn't find anything redeeming about this film but I couldn't. I think the last film I saw like that was Battlefield Earth and that's saying something about this film.

I guess depp should just stay out of the gangster stuff, if you said he was that bad.
I can't believe this movie would be thAt bad, like come on..
on an average for this year, pretty much, most of the movies were truly suking. from x-men, to terminator, to T2, and now this. WTF?? hollywood. start making good movies. I'd be very dissapointed if this year had ended that bad. on the other side of the scale, my movies for this year that made this year would have to be star trek, Watchmen and waitting for alot from Harry potter 6 and Were the Wild things are. so lets hope this year is still worth the watch. goddamn it 09 is pissing me off.
I'm sorry i wrote about all this and kept dragging. but both ways, niice review, i see your point in there. and if it was that bad??? well I guess this year is truly a bad one.
both ways good review.

The reason why I didn't walk out is because I don't like to. I spent money on the movie and there's no way to get my money back so I stay even if I hate the movie. The only movie I've walked out of was Mortal Kombat: Annialation.

If you couldn't take it then why'd you stick through to the end? I agree about Christian Bale. He's gotta be the last guy I'd think of for that role. But besides the altering of facts to center the story around Dillinger, then it wasn't THIS bad in my opinion...actually, not nearly bad at all as I rated it at 4.5. And yeah, I too recognized some of those grainy images which perplexed me, as well as the guy wearing modern blue jeans in the crowd at the airstrip that Dillinger's plane arives at. It was faster paced than "Heat" definitely for me. And "Heat" did have better conflicts between the two leads, as Depp & Bale aren't personally involved at all, which bugged me, and Dillinger wasn't even a big threat at the time of his first escape at the start of the film. [wow, he robbed a grocery store of $50 and broke out after 9yrs with only a year left of his sentence, and is somehow skyrocketed to PE#1].

While I still may not get why you hated it THAT much, I still get those other reasons. You can read mine to see what I saw in it.

Wow, I thought this would be boring just from the trailer, and that bad song they put in it. But now I know, I will wait for DVD, if that. Just this one review saying it was boring, is enough for me to save money.

Thanks Newkill200, I agree this movie wasn't even worth a free ticket. I would say the only time it might be worth watching if it was on tv for free.
